Today I set up my new AppleTV (3rd gen) to work with Plex Media Server / PlexConnect.
Everything works fine, except that it will not play subtitles.
If I play from the web interface on my Mac computer (http://192.168.1.30:32400/web/index.html#!/servers/726ffa72b483b3057312c417c6edd87f6279418f/sections/5/player/568) subtitles are shown just fine.
If I play from the Plex app on my iPad air, subtitles are shown just fine.
But on AppleTV, subtitles are not shown. I can select various subtitles from the menu, but they will not show on screen.
I'm thinking that this is a problem with PlexConnect.
My setup is s follows:
Mac mini, intel core i5 @ 2.33 GHz, 16 GB ram. OS X 10.9.1,
Plex Media Server, Version 0.9.8.18.290-11b7fdd
PlexConnect: Version: 0.3.1+
Python: 2.7.5 (default, Aug 25 2013, 00:04:04)
[GCC 4.2.1 Compatible Apple LLVM 5.0 (clang-500.0.68)]
Apple TV (3rd gen). Firmware: 6.0
The file I'm trying to play is an MKV with an external srt file (with the same name).
try change ur transcode settings.. wich type of file is it?
Hi stoffez - thanks for the reply.
I have about 600 movies. Mostly mp4, but some AVI and MKV. Subs are all .srt files when I download them manually. I presume since freebase is set to download from opensubtitles.org that these are .srt as well, but I haven't found where they're kept to verify this.
I can play with my transcode settings if you suspect that's the issue.
Looking at the transcoder options available, what setting should I adjust?.. Okay, newb question: am I looking at the settings in PMS or the settings file of PlexConnect?
The options under transcode are a little cryptic, there is Auto, High Speed, High Quality, and Make my CPU hurt options... didn't think any of those meant that it 'wasn't' transcoding.
I've changed it to hurt my CPU, but won't know the effects until I get home.

Thanks for helping the newbie, stoffez.
Cheers.
So I tried it, and there's no difference. Still no subs.
Please grab the latest of PlexConnect, play with its setting SubtitleRenderer (ie, set it to "iOS, PMS", "PMS") and report back - with information about media container, video codec, subtitle format.
