subtitles not at bottom of screen

subtitles are being displayed high, can I make them display bottom of the screen? (I watch movies on 4k Sony Bravia Android TV) and could not find any setting that could help here.

The location of the subtitles are fixed. They should be near the bottom of the image. Can you provide a screenshot?

they are at the bottom of the image but not bottom of the screen.
check the picture I uploaded.
Thanks,

That looks like the subtitles got burned in. If that’s the case, they have to be part of the image. We can’t place them outside of that window. If they are being direct played, they should be at the bottom of the screen.

not sure what it means ā€œburned inā€, but if you mean they are part of mkv file then no, it is separate srt file

I found setting on Plex Server in WEB -> Player -> Burn Subtitles
only options are:

  1. Automatic (that what I have set atm)
  2. Only Image Formats
  3. Always

will that help in any way? what setting should I choose?

I have samsung ks8000 and i get subtiles in this position also…all my subtitles are srt files beside movie files and they are direct streams…

Android - subs on the image.

Roku - Subs at the bottom - in the area that may be in the black, or be partially in the black - which is annoying as HELL!

At least the Roku offers some options for back dropping, but it doesn’t help too much if you have half the top line splitting the image and the black and the bottom line in the black. In this case I switch to my AFTV and watch it there - until it locks up or performs some other unexpected, magical, Exo-Player 2 miracle… then I try to decide if I want wild subs I have to pause to read, or deal with Plex on AFTV.

Of the options available to me - none are all that good.

BTW, just because a sub file (srt) is external, doesn’t mean it’s UTF-8 (text based). Image based subs can just as easily be in srt files and those will very likely require transcoding, but in this case, transcoding means nothing as far as the location. Android subs go on the image - and IMO - that’s where they belong.

@JuiceWSA I guess it is only your opinion. I always setup my subs to be at bottom in the black as you said and that works perfect for me and everybody in my household.

If I understand correctly for some reason the developers of Plex don’t think that giving people option to position subtitles where they want on Android TV is appropriate? even though they provide this option for other devices? is that what you are trying to tell me? and there is no way to move them to bottom?

Pretty much. Plex doesn’t put users very high on the list of things to worry about.

It depends what severity of Widescreen you’re dealing with. When there is plenty of black, to hold all the subs, i prefer the Roku. Subs are displayed at the bottom, in the black.

If the bar is shorter, the subs display partially in the black and partially on the image. If you enjoy that… Well… You are Unique and apparently so is everyone in your household.

At my house when subs behave that way i attempt to use my AFTV, as Plex has given me no option, but has decided, correctly, by some miracle, to put the subs on the image, it works out great, until the app locks up/crashes/burns/etc…

If it gets really bad, I try to use PMP, but with every Improvement they make to that, it’s functionality becomes more and more dificult to achieve.

So…
Options? None.
Workarounds? Some. Not good ones, but some.
Will Plex leap into action correcting this issue? As soon as that flying pig air drops your bacon, you can expect a fix.

Just wow, is there a place to request functionality?

No, there isn’t.
Even if you had access to Upper Tier, Plex Pass Forums - Plex responds equally to any user tier - slowly, poorly or not at all. ā€˜Feature Requests’ wither on the vine at any level. ā€˜Feature Requests’ are merely placebo ā€˜feel good’ pills that contain no real medicine.

To be clear, the ability to modify the color/placement/text of a subtitle i sup to the device itself. On the Fire TV, we do not currently have ability to control this, so the subtitles will appear where the device wants. The only thing we can control is the size, and that ability is there.

Non Plex Pass users can make a feature request in the General section. This is changing in the near future, https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/319354/well-be-moving-the-forums-to-discourse-heres-the-scoop.

Ah, I didn’t realize it was Plex Pass only. In regards to what else you said, I’d love to see a compiled list of implemented Feature Requests, because it does seem like there’s hundreds of them, many not hard to do, which makes you wonder if there’s any point to the forum at all

Maybe that new ā€œpointsā€ system in the new forums discussed elsewhere will help some of them actually get done.

A Leopard can not change his spots.

A New Forum will not afford users a magical path into the kingdom so that they may have a say into the proceedings. The proceedings are undertaken behind the scenes, behind closed doors, by ā€˜Top Men’ in complete secrecy. ā€˜Features’ are added when development ā€˜senses’ a need through osmosis - not by looking at lists of Feature Requests. I doubt anyone in development even knows there is a forum, much less Feature Request Threads left to grow black mold and rot.

I’m not as jaded as pessimistic as you are, but I’m getting there :stuck_out_tongue:

Would I like for things to change?
Sure.
Do I expect change?
No.
Plex has basically cured me of any misguided optimism I may have had at one time… I’ve owned an AFTV for 6 years and for 6 years have been pummeled about the head and shoulders trying to run Plex on it.

I’m not from Missouri, but they’re going to have to ā€˜Show Me’:

@JuiceWSA I really apreciate you explaining this to me. I found this Plex and I really like the idea. To be honest if they impreoved/implemented those small things I would not even consider other options.
I am in complete shock as the features I am talking about are being part of other solutions for years now so when I couldn’t see them in plex I was stunned…

Finally, with the change of the plex player on android tv the subtitles are now in the black bars in movies where they had been removed by cropping in HandBrake.
Like with a 1920x800 aspect ratio now subtitles are on black bars.
