Subtitles Problem - NVidia Shield

Hi. I have problems with subtitles embedded in mkv files when I play videos in a NVidia Shield. I have no problems at all when I play the same videos in Windows, Web browser or Android Phone. I’ve been suffering from this problem since several months ago.

Server Version#: Synology Plex 1.20.4.3517
Player Version#: 8.8.1.21332

The logs from the Android app on the Shield wouldn’t hurt either.

I have the media and the Plex Server on the Synology and I use the NVidia Shield only for playing, not as media server:

  • Around 8:25 am I played the file without subtitles. It plays fine. I stopped it.
  • Next, I try to play the same file with subtitles activated. It fails (the image keeps like buffering).
  • Next, I play the file without subtitles (ok) and then I try to activate the subtitles (the image keeps like buffering).

In the Plex app on the Shield, do you have the option enabled to allow automatically adjusting the quality. There is a bug I’m looking into with that and subtitles. Workaround for now is to turn that feature off or set the subtitles to burn.

Changed (auto adjust quality). That was it. Now it works.
