Subtitles showing for some files even when disabled on Samsung 2021 neoQLED

In the past week or two I’ve started to see this issue: Subtitles showing even when they are disabled [and double subtitles]

… but only for certain files, and only on Samsung (iOS and Web don’t show these extra subtitles). Subtitles are off everywhere (in plex during playback, in the TV accessibility settings, and ‘burn’ is set to never). I’m assuming there’s some encoded subtitles baked into the files which the Samsung codec is choosing to show?

Any suggestions to debug or address this gratefully received.
