Subtitles with foreign audio doesn't work

I am hoping someone might be able to provide some guidance here as I can’t seem to get this working…

I have a movie stored in an mp4. I’ve set the audio track to English. When I run get info from within Plex it shows as English. When on the movie intro screen, it shows the Audio as English (AAC 5.1). I have also included the #MOVIENAME#.en.forced.srt subtitle file in the same folder as the mp4. In Plex, I have my preferred audio track in “English”, I have subtitle mode set to “Show with foreign audio” and prefer subtitles in “English”.

As far as I can tell I have everything setup correctly. The file is set to English, and the audio stream is set to English. I have manually included external subtitle files and also included the *.en.forced.srt subtitles. Finally I have the option selected in Plex to “show with foreign audio”…

So everything should be setup correctly… but subtitles on foreign audio do not work. If I manually select the *.en.forced.srt then it works, but it isn’t happening automatically. I don’t understand why this is not working.

Do I have something configured wrong? Should Plex be selecting the *.en.forced.srt by default? Have I completely misunderstood how I should be setting this up? I feel like I must be doing something wrong.

Did you also check the box to Auto select audio & subtitle tracks?

Plex should pick the forced subtitles when the movie is added to your server.

However, Plex remembers previous subtitle selections.

So, if you manually choose another subtitle track, Plex will remember that selection the next time you play the same file. It will not revert to the forced track.

Thanks for this. I didn’t think about Plex having a memory on the selection. Let me play around with this. While trying to figure out why it wasn’t working, I definitely manually changed the subtitle selection. I am going to try removing the movie and adding it again to Plex to see what happens.

You’ll want to Plex Dance the movie and subtitle files, not just move it out of / back into a library.

Thank you so much, I think everything is working now. Just needed to do the Plex Dance and now when I add the movie with the *.forced.en.srt it appears to be auto selected by Plex now. Thanks again, much appreciated
