Subtitles work in VLC but not Plex, why?

I’m going down the rabbit hole of forum searches here… After two hours of searching, I’m just going to ask it:

I have a movie named “Movie (1999).mkv” … I have its subtitles file named “Movie (1999).eng.srt” … My Agents all have Local Media Assets turned on and set to the top… I’ve refreshed all metadata…deleted the files…re-ripped the files… you name it, I’ve done it. Yet VLC player can see my subtitles, but Plex can’t… What gives?!

Yet when I open the same exact movie file in VLC without moving it or anything else…no problem… Now if only there was a VLC player for my Roku… :wink:

Your file naming is correct. What version # number of server are you running? Would need to see server, scanner, and local media agent logs to try to figure out if it is even seeing the file or why it might be ignoring it.

…of course this just happened… haha, I went back to get you that info, and just for giggles I clicked on the film again, and now all of a sudden it can see the subtitles…?? Is there just a massive lag or something? As you can see from the pics above, it wasn’t working, and I had tried every combination of moving things around… Then I post here in the forum after finally giving up, go back to plex…and it’s fixed. haha what? Literally nothing changed between then and now.

So… I guess it’s all good now? (for the record, I’m running server Version 1.13.8.5395, which is the latest upon my writing this)

I don’t get lag when I add subtitles so not sure what it going on in your case. I assume the file appeared to be finished refreshing. Did you hit “scan for media files” or just “refresh metadata”? I think the 2nd just want to be sure so i can test on my end

I started off with a refresh. …then when nothing changed, I did all sorts of things…pulled the files out…rescanned… cleaned bundles, emptied trash, put files back…rescanned them back in…nothing…refreshed the meta…nothing… Did that several times… Tried downloading some subtitles, nothing… put it all back…did another round of scans and refreshes, etc etc…nothing… post in here…go back to Plex…and magic happened. haha, so that will be my process now. I’ll just post here then go back and see if it worked. :wink: haha
