I wish there was a way we could set a featured pop up to show when the credits roll which allows users to click play on the next suggested movie or tv series. This allows server owners with expansive libraries to showcase series or films linked to ones the user is watching, Example: User finishes watching Fantastic Beasts The Secrets of Dumbledore —> Credits Roll (Skip Credits Button shows) Popup with a poster and a small description appears for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone. Something the user can optionally click to just roll into the next movie in the series.
This can also apply to series, say I finish The Batman, I want a pop up to send viewers directly into the series The Penguin (2024) with Episode 1 of the show.
I feel like this is a super nice option to have when it’s chosen to showcase by the server owner. Please implement this!!!
Isn’t that how the post-play screen is already working?
If I watch a movie which is part of a collection, Plex will offer me the next movie of that collection. If it’s a standalone movie with extras, Plex will list the movie’s extras.
Plex isn’t listing the next movie of a collection in the Continue Watching hub, though. That’s what this other suggestion is about.
I’ve found that most viewers don’t browse by collection so that feature gets rendered moot pretty fast.
Also it’s only if the user waits long enough for the post play screen / hits skip credits button. Then a sequel playback option appears. BUT, it’s limited to the next in the order of a same library collection.
The server owner has no power to recommend a series instead of a movie to play next, or a particular series episode. This would be key for multimedia collections with big franchises which contain movies and series and shorts sometimes. Star Trek, Wizarding World, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Marvel, Breaking Bad, DUNE, The Batman, and so many more franchises could benefit from this.
Like yes it’s nice to have the post playback screen in playing from a collection but it would be much better to have something sooner and more instant and customizable when the server owner wants. Also more handy for the binge viewers out there.
Something like this in the image would be amazing to have and have it be customizable for any media:
Example: Finish watching DUNE, credits roll, instantly an option to view DUNE 2 or Dune: Prophecy the series.
Ok… so it’s not what’s requested in the other suggestion.
Do I understand your suggestion correct that you still want to use information about related media – e.g. from collections – but show it while the credits are rolling.
#1 seems to be the exactly same topic suggested in the other thread. #2 also seems to be covered in their suggestion – starting with an algorithm to pick obviously related media (e.g. based on franchises/collections…) or an option to let the user/owner pick.
I’m wondering though… as you talk about an extensive library, do you really want to manually configure recommendations for individual movies/items that’ll be listed on that popup / bar?
I would love the option to manually configure the recommendations heck yeah. I live for the manual labor in building a solid clean library and maintain it with cusom poster, collections and a lot more. I’m sure I’m not the only one out there doing that.
So yeah I would defs spend a few hours to set manual popups for movies and series if given the choice. But like setting collections, this should be an optionally manual process. Maybe not a thing which shows up on all movies but certainly the ones which deserve a viewer recommendation to watch next.
In that case, I suggest you comment / vote in that existing suggestion and detail their “hierarchical algorithm” by clarifying that or let the user choose? should mean you (the server admin) can specify those yourself.
While I’m sure there’s others who’ll like something like this, it appears to be more of a niche suggestion (no judgement) – hence it’ should be beneficial if we can avoid distracting votes for the almost exact same suggestion in two threads.
