I just wanted to make a suggestion, not sure what others might think about this but what about adopting something like the Plex Black Edition Skin as the default for OpenPHT? It would make a clear differentiator from previous verisons of PHT that were supported by the Plex team and would mean that searched screenshots etc for OpenPHT would look clearly different.
I think the black edition skin strikes a really good balance, it adds a lot more flexibility for the user with more settings, but you don’t HAVE to use them and they aren’t overly complex and the general layout is just like a cleaner slightly modernised version of the default skin.
The home screen looks so much cleaner than on the default plex skin.
This would be kind of similar to the way that PHT started as essentially a new skin for the old PMC client (from what I remember from that time anyway).
The 1.5.1 release of OpenPHT has already fixed things that have annoyed me from day 1 with PHT (channels menu item!) the black skin fixes a bunch of other annoyances like the looping menu items, unremovable search menu item, lack of kiosk mode which make my friends keep changing view layouts when scrolling right too far etc.
Those 2 together just seem like a great combination and gave me a whole new, fresh Plex client in one go!
This is a third party skin developed by one individual and currently is not Open Source so really it cannot be included as the default skin. I agree that this is an excellent skin and use it all of the time on all of my Rasplex/OpenPHT clients.
Maybe worth chatting with the individual developer to see if he would be interested in making it available under an opensource license and having it used as a default skin for openPHT? I know as a developer myself if someone approached me with an offer like that I’d be all over it to contribute!
I’m just really impressed with openPHT and with this skin at the moment.
An approach was made some weeks ago. In fact I sent hime a RC for this release and he updated his skin to take account of changes, presumably he will be releasing this shortly.
As a newbie to PHT, I decided to install Black Edition and do like it as I prefer dark themes and it seems almost universally recommended. But honestly I didn’t have any issues with the default theme either.
Still combing through and digesting the 10^14 config options on OpenPHT/PBE… wow.
