[RELEASE] OpenPHT 1.6.0

Today we announce the release of OpenPHT 1.6.0.

This release brings lots of improvements to the playback engine backported from Kodi Jarvis 16.1.
It is also the first release where OpenPHT and RasPlex is truly merged into one shared code base.

Important new features includes the upgrade to ffmpeg 2.8 and support for installing/updating skins directly from the select skin dialog.

Big thanks to the beta and skinning teams for making this release the best one to date!

  • Updated branding and new splash screen
  • Direct play of HEVC and other codecs ffmpeg 2.8 supports
  • Transcode audio to AC3 for use with optical out
  • Improved gapless music support
  • Better 3D support
  • Preference option to disable preplay screen
  • Skin option to disable window and dialog fade animations
  • Music OSD added to default skin
  • Preference option to disable server side scaling of fanart and photos
  • Support for downloading, installing and updating supported skins in preferences
  • Updated seek handling with support for adaptive seeking and preview images
  • Previous menu and back button now switches to fullscreen when media is playing on home screen and vice versa
  • Embedded/RasPlex: Exprimental Bluetooth Audio support - works without issue on RPi3, on RPi0/1/2 with BT dongle it is dependent on the make of dongle which must support BT V4.1 at minimum

  • Fix filtered episodes view in default skin
  • Fix a shuffle all / create play queue issue
  • Fix a shoutcast redirect issue
  • Fix shoutcast stream title when ffmpeg avio is enabled
  • Fix audio and subtitle selection for media with multiple media items or parts
  • Avoid getting stuck in dim state when skin is reloaded
  • Fix wrong icon highlight and window switch in preferences menu
  • Font fixes for a common crash in windows version
  • Reset screen saver timer in plex http handler
  • Fix search result title in default skin
  • Embedded/RasPlex: Fix pre-cache of bigThumb art

Known Issues

  • Windows SmartScreen could block the installer, use the Run anyway option to install
  • Auto-update of windows portable installs will fail and corrupt your portable install

Auto Update
OpenPHT 1.6.0 will not make it to the pre-release update channel, a 1.6.1 bug-fix release will be pushed to the update pre-release channel once it is ready.

Thanks, but 1.6 doesn’t compile on Ubuntu 14.04. Posted a new topic as advised.

I modified the default skin, is there anyway to quickly see what has changed in the default skin between 1.52 and 1.60 ?

See the release notes, if you are not bothered about the new Now Playing OSD then continue using your old default skin copy, the default skin name has been changed so will coexist with the old one.

On first start I’ve got message that there is an update for my skin (add-on update). Can it be done from within OpenPHT?

Yes, select the updated skin and it will download and install it for you.

Awesome ! Installed and works like a charm ! (using embedded on an ASUS Chromebox)

First impressions with an clean install runs with my Asus ChromeBox… It works… Thanks alot for your work

Here are some problem`s with it.

  • In openPHT Settings and PlexBlackSkin the 4 Menu icons on left are flickering when i klicking during menu. after 2 oder 3 seconds it stops flickering.

  • Hibernade Mode are don´t work. After Press Hibernate, Plex jumps back to Homescreen ans is not answering to keyboard action. SSH working…

Here are an debug log, there are many ERROR Messages… but i cant see something to hibernate

Why can I not toggle passthrough on / off per codec? Found it sorry!

Are there video scaling methods in this version? I can’t see any and I thought @Kwiboo said they were coming with 1.6?

My RasPlex just automatically updated to OpenPHT 1.6.0! :open_mouth:

You can change video scaling method in the video osd → video settings dialog. It should have all scaling methods supported, some of the hq scaling methods depend on the ‘enable hq scalers for scaling above’ option.

I got instant crashes trying to play a movie. Log is attached.
