hthighway:
You could use sonarr/radarr to manage your media.
That would allow sonarr/radarr to push updates to your plex server when new media is added, and only that new media would be scanned
Sonarr & Radarr still trigger a scan of the entire relevant Library section in Plex.
autoscan can be added to scan only specific paths, but that’s starting to get fiddly.
Unless there are specific conditions causing slow scanning - like truly gigantic libraries + cloud mounts - that’s not typically necessary.
It is quite fast - it’s just that I was wondering if it would be possible to skip directories where there won’t be any changes because the show ended. It’s more about efficiency than anything else.

It sounds like Plex is already doing what you want!
No changes to the filesystem == no unnecessary work
If Plex also parsed another type of .ignore file, that would be slower than the current fast mechanism.
Yep, and I figured there was no sense going into explaining autoscan if the OP wasn’t interested in Sonarr/Radarr.
but that’s starting to get fiddly.
I’ve never experienced that with autoscan, but everyone’s use case is different
If you use .plexignore files, the ignored items will be removed from your library.
Probably not what you had in mind.

I don’t mean that any of the components are unreliable, just that it’s a lot of moving parts. Slightly different paths to configure in all of them.
They’re all great tools.
