Suggestions: Plexamp, going next-level

So, I’m currently running PMS on a ShieldTV (acting as a client as well) and using a multitude of clients in different operating systems.

I can’t help but notice there’s a gap in the music side of Plex.

Plexamp surely helps to fill that gap, a lightweight music player focused on the music playing experience, but there’s potential for so much more in it…

So, here are the suggestions:

1. Android and IOS support
Android and IOS are used on a multitude of devices: tablets, smartphones, notebooks, pcs and even headunits. There’s currently no good option as a music player for Plex for these devices. A lightweight music player for these devices would be a much welcome addition. I’m struggling a lot using the regular app on an Android Headunit. You could sell it for a small price in those app stores just like you do with the regular app.
2. Sync
Why the need for services like google music for syncing music when we can run our own with Plex? The infrastructure and server are already there.
3. API
Read currently playing information and sending commands (play, stop, skip, etc), making it possible to easily integrate it with Home Automation Systems and other apps like Discord.

Those are my suggestions. I really think going a next level further with Plexamp could strongly increase the value of the music side of Plex.

Plex desperately needs a dedicated music player for Android. Music sync on android has been broken since release for tons of people including myself. I am forced to upload all my music to Google Play Music and use their app because the Plex app is virtually useless on anything but the best LTE connection for whatever reason. Not to mention the Plex app for some reason uses tons of battery compared to Google Play Music.

Thanks for the suggestions, much appreciated!

Plexamp is utterly brilliant.

I am struggling a bit with getting around the UI and I can’t make the volume controls work but I can forgive all of that as it pretty much does everything I want as a music player, particularly those aspects which are missing in PMS & PMP.

The gapless playback has been a major missing element but Plexamp does it perfectly. Thank you.

The biggest negative is that it doesn’t seem to find all the players and each device running Plexamp finds a different list of players.

Thanks for the kind words!

You’re right that it uses a slightly different mechanism to find players, and relies on them being signed in and registering (which players should be doing).

The missing players are signed in and registered, in fact plexamp on a different device finds one of the missing players and loses another but I cannot get any instance of plexamp to find the Roku.

I am using Roku 2 to play video from PMS and it plays the sound through the 5.1 receiver. PMS and PMP can both “see” it as a player with no problems but plexamp cannot.
