Would love to have a Plexamp for Android that would work similarly to Spotify for Android or YouTube Music for Android. A music player first for those who use Plex for Android primarily for the music playback on the go.
Iâm not sure I completely agree with the idea of creating two separate apps. Surely any music-focussed features youâd like to see in âPlexamp for Androidâ could instead be incorporated into the standard Plex for Android app, meaning the devs are only having to maintain one codebase. As it stands you can pin / unpin sources in the sidebar, and customise your homescreen, so you could easily hide all but your music as it is. The android app already has a persistent playback notification allowing you to skip track without needing to go back into the app. Effectively what would you want to see in a dedicated music experience on Android thatâs not already covered by the full app? Must admit one thing Iâd like to see is Android widgets- allowing me to pin a shortcut on my homescreen thatâll take me straight to a playlist (or ideally start playing it shuffled in one-tap), but that wouldnât need to be a whole separate app.
Thatâs a thing now.
Great that itâs a thing now. Itâs been needed for so long. Iâve been tired of losing my ânow playingâ state for music when I decide to watch a TV show on my phone.
Any news of when we can expect a widget and lockscreen controls for Android?
Edit: Just realised thereâs a notification area widget, so carry on!
So then why does a company like Amazon have separate apps for their services? Every service is incorporated into the main app but something like Audiobooks is in their Audible app. We want one codebase but every time the devs fix things for say video, something else breaks in another section like dealing with audio libraries. Itâs just a horrible experience. I refrained from using my music library due to app crashes that only happen while I shuffle in the Plex app. Since Iâve downloaded the Plex Amp for every platform. I havenât had a crash. There are features I am missing, but I can at the very least listen to my playlists without a bug interrupting my listening experience.
Amazon - 3 separate apps, three different purposes
Audiobooks -> Audible app
Music -> Amazon Music
Video -> Prime Video
The products arenât even named in a way that links them together. Plex at least has two. One covers anything audio, audiobooks and music libraries and the other, video and everything else. Why is it not ok for us to have options? Isnât that the take away that ensued anger for iTunes users like myself who wanted to leave iTunes but had a bloated mess of buggy software. I needed a separate app for music.
Even Apple had to split up their media apps.
