Another request for HEIC…it’s been 2 years and not supporting it makes Plex feel a bit outdated.
Is it even being worked on or are “Photos” being depreciated so you can work on Live TV, News, Tidal and other stuff we don’t want?
Another vote here, so we can stop converting pictures into jpg before or after upload.
iPhone users have extra conversion steps, and that is a ding on user experience.
Another vote - to keep this up and running. Very disappointing this is not implemented even after such a long time.
Need this tooo. Hope it will soon implent
Me too please.
I note that these live photos do appear to be uploaded, but now just as .MOV (no JPG image), but as the MOV file cannot be viewed this is currently pretty pointless :(.
Plex, c’mon please support this or at least reply…
Lets keep the momentum moving forward on this one. This feature needs to be added. Plex can you please respond? If you offer “photos uploads” as part of the Plex package then at least spend some time supporting it.
Just found this issue on thought I had uploaded all my photos. but when I tried to view them not there what the?
Don’t think anyone from Plex is monitoring this thread but same here, i’m a Plex Pass subscriber and need this feature as my old photos are on Plex but cant move the newer LIVE photos as i will loose the Live element. Apple are pushing there icloud services for photos and this may be my next option as Plex just don’t seem to be looking at a fix … a comment or update would be nice!
As far as I can tell Plex kinda deals with Live Photos. When I plug my iPhone into my computer I can see a .mov and a corresponding .jpg file for each live photo. Plex will upload the original like “cover photo” but it won’t upload the corresponding .mov file (the live aspect along with it). Also the “cover photo” that plex uses for the camera uploaded is stored as a 3 second .mov clip which is also kinda obnoxious. It’d be nice if we could hear back about this, if they’re ever going to look into correctly uploading live photos.
My experience was different… every photo synced that was taken since 2018 showed up as a .MOV file and nothing else. Also it seems that plex corrupts this file… no program that is supposed to be able to open livephoto .MOV files can open them off my network share.
I have the same experience. iOS Plex now uploads a lot of corrupt MOV files instead of live photos. It undermines the whole reason I bought and have been using Plex.
Plex, please address this years-overdue request!!
Agreed–this is the main reason I use Plex.
Please get this problem solved as soon as possible. I think lots of Plex users are starting to look for other solutions because of the antiquated photo backup system.
Same here. All my live photos (from iPhone Xs and iPhone 11 Pro) are uploaded as .MOV files. The files seems to be of correct size (1 - 2.5MB). But they won’t open in quicktime player. This is really frustrating.
Very disappointed that this isn’t being addressed by Plex and has been a known issue for over a year now. Auto photo upload was a big reason I bought the Plex pass lifetime membership only to find out this huge flaw with iOS devices.
What a letdown.
Plex is not really responsive and they have not been actively working on making personal photos & video organization better. Do people here have any suggestions on better alternatives?
Cleary needed as all our devices upload via Plex rather than using icloud and the majority of pics my kids upload are live photos.
Being able to only upload regular photos without any of the live ones completely nullify the possibility of using Plex for that, it’s really unfortunate.
Even if it would be just uploading separately both the still photo and its associated short video (that’s how iOS store them internally), this would be an acceptable solution.
Plex! Please enable Live Photo backups!!!
+one it’s time now
thanks
