Like others would love official support for Audiobooks in Plex to further centralise all my media.
At the moment I’ve implemented 3rd party Audio book Meta data scraper [REL] Audiobook Metadata Agent (Audible) + setup a Music library with that extra ‘Store track progress’ checkbox ticked to give me half decent workaround for now.
But obviously being dependant on 3rd party web page scraping makes that fragile + biggest annoyance/problem is that clicking on ‘Album’/Audiobook Play button doesn’t Resume from last played position
Instead for multi-track audiobook you need to remember which track you were within and then click the track specific play button to be offered Resume.
Could anyone from Plex team say if this feature request has even made it onto official backlog yet? (given almost 500 comments on this thread now)
Any ideas on priority and/or timescales would be even more appreciated!
Its beyond annoying to me that we have seen so little effort into anything at all relating to audiobooks. They already have so many of these features we are asking for, they already exist… unless their code is so much of a mess that they can’t reuse some of the already built functions, along with only a few new ones to help customize things a bit more for audiobook usage. I just don’t understand why they won’t even throw us a bone here. They have so many people here that paid for their service asking for this. Give us something!
It seems like with how little effort it should take to add these features that they would make back the cost of the single programmer’s time that they spare to us back within the first day of release if they made this a Plex pass feature, or even if they kept it as a free feature to help draw more people to Plex it would still benefit them in the long term.
Full audiobook support would be great and fit nicely into the podcast support.
The folder view for music is a very close step to having audiobook support.
The playback speed control for podcasts is another important feature for audiobooks.
It would seem they are very close to all of the needed features in their code base, just need to combine them together for audiobooks and add better play all support for folders.
Please support audio books in a proper and cool way! That stores the track progress and is easily organized accounting that audio books sometimes have multiple chapters under the same folder and etc…
+1 to Full Audiobook support, currently using a Music library with the Audiobook metadata plugin however, this is not full support.
Currently the remembering timestamps function with audio does not always work and even sorting or managing audiobooks is a nightmare because of how it parses the meta data.
Because asking for a reflowable-text document viewer is a wholly different request than asking for additional audio format support and controls—when most of the audio support already exists in Plex and a document viewer does not.
Asking for a Kindle alternative is different from asking for an Audible alternative. As such, that should be (and is) a totally separate feature request.
Since I’m here, still hoping this functionality. Something I dearly want to be able to use more, but the short comings definitely put me off using this too often for audiobooks.
