How quickly might it be until multi tuner support is added? This interface looks awesome but with fall premieres starting up having support for only one device means I won’t be able to jump into as trying to reserve tuners between different DVR backends usually doesn’t work so well.
I agree, very nice UI. I have two HDHomeRun devices and would be nice to search for an open tuner across both. Maybe this could make it into the next beta, that would be great.
We’re definitely interested in being able to support adding multiple devices (and thus increasing the number of tuners) as we move forward, but don’t have a time-frame to share just yet.
Thanks for letting me know it’s on the roadmap - I’ll have to chart out my show times and see if I can squeak by with 1 device (2 tuners) until multiple devices are supported.

Under the hood, there is support for multiple devices per DVR, and even multiple DVRs (imagine one in the US, one in the UK).

Yup… looking forward to seeing the progress in the beta!
I was so excited to learn about the Beta Release of Plex DVR. I’ve been needing an adequate replacement for Windows Media Center. I tried a few others, including the HDHomerun DVR Kickstart, but they just don’t make the cut! I rushed home from work to install the Plex Beta, only to learn that I can only add one DVR. Big let down! It’s mandatory that I have 4 tuners to record multiple shows aired at the same time and without being able to add both my HDHomeRun Extends, I won’t be able to thoroughly test out the Plex DVR Beta. Guess I’ll have to keep Media Center alive to handle the additional tuner. PLEASE understand how important multiple devices are for many of us (I hope) and include the support for this into your product as soon as possible. I wish Plex the best of luck with the DVR feature. I’m sure many of us, including myself, are anxious to upgrade our Windows 7 WMC PC to Windows 10! Not fully understanding the “tips-and-tricks” with Remote Devices.
Another thing that will hopefully happen is the DVR functionality will be expanded to support other hardware manufacturers. I own a 4-tuner Tablo and would love to be able to use it with Plex DVR. One of the reasons I went with the Tablo is I could purchase just 1 device to have 4 tuners rather then needing to purchase 2 HDHR devices.
+1 for Tablo support!
Another vote for Tablo support here. I’ve already got a pretty good workflow to get Tablo recordings onto Plex, but it’s far more complex than it needs to be (Tablo records programs, Tablo Ripper rips them to a computer, MCEBuddy strips commercials and places them onto a NAS location, Hazel moves them into the correct Plex folders). This works, but it requires two separate computers to do the work (Tablo Ripper and MCEBuddy are Windows-only, Hazel is Mac-only, and I can’t find good enough substitutes for either to get the whole workflow onto one machine).
I haven’t downloaded the DVR beta yet, but is there (or could there be) a way for us to apply the DVR logic (e.g., only keep X number of unwatched episodes, etc.) to shows that have been added the old-fashioned way? That would be a good enough interim solution for me while Tablo support is discussed or developed.
I totally agree. Plex should add Tablo support. Tablo is far better than HDHomeRun. I own both but only us the Tablo now as there is no stutter and video quality is much better.
Please add Tablo support.
Another happy Tablo user would love to see Tablo work nice with Plex DVR! Would make a killer combo!
As of today’s update, you can now add multiple HDHomeRun tuners via the web. More info and screenshots here.
Another vote for Tablo integration here!!!
Heres a nice unofficial write up on the Tablo API - http://www.superhac.com/tablo/
They have also mentioned in their forums they are finishing up their Public API documentation and are going to open it up to developers. So hopefully we will see something in the future!
Thanks for the recommendation! We launched Live TV today along with additional tuner support. Check out all the supported tuners in our support article.
I’m not sure I can ask the question clearly enough, and I might just have to try it and see, but now that multiple HDHomeRun tuners are supported, I’m hoping I can attach my (2) HDHomeRuns to (2) different antennas pointed in different directions. I’m wondering if Plex will be able to intelligently handle the two devices having different channels.
I use an ATV4 with Plex and Tablo, but considering the Apple TV Tablo app is still pretty buggy, it would be really nice to just use Plex for everything.
One more vote here for Tablo support.
Upvote +1.
