Support of more tuner devices

I am hoping someone familiar with the technology, software, encoding, etc. of TV tuners can answer this question: what goes into making a tuner work with Plex? Are all ATSC tuners essentially the same, so that I could fanagle a way to make my KWorld UB435-Q (a 4 year old tuner) work with Plex? Or are they similar, so that Plex might add support for it at some point in the future? Or are there big differences between old and new, so that I probably just need to buy one that is supported by Plex?

If the answers are complicated… I’d be grateful if someone could even point me in the right direction to study wiki or other techy articles.

I also have a KWorld KWUB-435-Q tuner that I would like to set up using the DVR system. Paid for a Plex Pass thinking that this would be easy…
