Support single tuner, multiple recordings if on same ATSC channel

Hi folks,

Single OTA ATSC tuners like the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-950 are able to tune multiple channels if they are on the same ATSC frequency (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc). This allows for simultaneous live TV/recording of multiple shows and I have used this capability often with Tvheadend and Kodi - stations like PBS affiliates often broadcast interesting material concurrently on their subchannels, and being able to record them simultaneously on a single tuner is fantastic.

It’d be great if PMS would take this into account when there are multiple scheduled recordings or live TV requests on the same channel frequency and not automatically reject the additional tunings. Stations can have up to 6 subchannels and a single tuner could record all 6 simultaneously if PMS would enable it.

Thanks for opening up to additional tuners! It’d be nice to be able to simplify from Tvheadend + tvhProxy to a fully native solution - so far this issue is the only stumbling block.

Hi,

I can say the same goes for DVB standards outside the US (here it is called “transpoder”). The issue I see is that Plex is not tuning themselves but a receiver layer must be inbetween. Maybe they can have a look at this one… It would mean that the DVR logic needs to know if channels are sitting on the same frequency/transponder so I can grab a second channel off that using the same tuner.

This is one of my reasons why I will stick with TVH inbetween for some more months.
