Sync button missing on all Plex clients for my account

Server Version#: 4.46.2
Player Version#:8.9.2.21619

I have lifetime Plex pass. Have not used sync on a long time due to covid. Try today and it’s missing. All devices, phone, tablet is missing. Shows up under wife’s family account on same devices.

Checked under server settings, wife’s family account had sync allowed but there are no settings for sync on my account.

Any ideas on a fix?

As the admin, you should automatically have Sync enabled. You can’t actually turn it off. If you don’t see the button, there is something wrong. Have you tried signing out and back into the app?

is this only on Android? do you see the sync option in the web browser app for example?

It appears to be my fault. Looks like they renamed it from ‘sync’ to ‘download’. I was able to sync on the browser and target my device. That led me to try what I previously ignored , the download button. Thanks for your suggestion.

You are correct, there is still something wrong. When I log in now after not using the tablet for a few hours, the download option is missing. It’s very strange and all over the place. I have actually uninstalled the app on my tablet and reinstalled with no luck. My phone still shows the download button under the show triple dot options. and it seems to act like the sync.

At one point the sync (or was it download, I don’t remember) option showed under the video options during playback. But that seems to be missing now.

So to clarify. At this time:

my login on my phone shows “watched” “share” and “triple dot”. under triple dot I have “download” and a few others.

my wifes login on my phone shows: “watched” “sync” “triple dot”. under triple dot there is NO “download” button and just a few others.

my login on tablet shows same as my phone but no “download” under triple dot

wifes login on tablet shows same as on my phone. sync with no download under triple dot.

such inconsistency is very strange.

both phone and tablet are running the same version.

and yes, I just tried signing out and back in on the tablet, fully with my plex username and same issue.

This part is correct. The buttons will change depending on what a user is able to do. Your wife can’t share so she won’t see that option, which then brings the sync/download button to #2 for her. Since you can share, you see that and sync/download is #3 and gets moved into the … menu.

This is strange. The tablet does have a slightly different UI due to the larger screen. But the buttons shouldn’t change. Can you provide a screenshot of both the phone and tablet for comparison. For me, I see the same choices.

The tablet looks like the menu got cut off but I scrolled up and down and “go to show” is the top menu option.

Check the permissions for the app on the tablet. I’m wondering if you didn’t give it permission to storage so you won’t get the option.

Well, turns out the phone did NOT have permissions and the tablet does. Both now have storage permissions. It’s a samsung tab S6 if that helps at all.

Oh, that’s even weirder. That’s the opposite of what I expected.
