Sync capability on Windows tablets

I’ve bought and just finished setting up two new Windows 10 64 bit tablets so the kids can continue to use Plex on long car journeys.
For nearly a week my PMS has been converting kids films into Windows optimised file formats in readiness. Now I’ve come to try to sync to the tablets it seems the option to optimise for sync with Windows exists on the PMS but the option has been removed from the client. Downloading brings down the entire massive original file which is jerky on playback on my low spec tablets.
I haven’t missed anything have I? Plex really have withdrawn offline sync for Windows tablets but left the option to optimise for Windows on the PMS?
I’m sticking with Windows tablets so unless I’m being daft and there’s an option I’ve missed then Plex is no longer of use to me and I’ll have to find an alternative - maybe not the right forum to ask but suggestions for an alternative media server with sync capabilities welcome.

The new Plex for Windows client does not currently support converting to a lower quality at this time. What you are remembering is the older Plex app available form the Windows Store.

We hope to add this ability back in the future.

Yes, I know what I’m remembering, the fantastic functionality, still reflected in the PMS, to optimise files for sync with a Windows client. The functionally which led me to purchase a lifetime Plex Pass and move away from the trauma of Handbrake.

While I’d normally thank you for your response, your comment, “We hope to add this ability back in the future,” doesn’t help me or anyone else who reads it. What Plex ‘hope’ to do in future isn’t any indication of what they will do, its a brush off.

I and many others thought we’d found a great deal when we bought Lifetime Plex Passes but my pass is no longer useful to me. I used one premium function and it is no longer available. I’m not the only one. Every premium function you discontinue leaves some Lifetime Plex Pass customers without key functionality they thought they were buying.

Reputations take a long time to build but can be lost much faster. I’ve just been added to the ranks of people who will warn people off Plex rather than singing its praises as I used to.

If anyone can suggest an alternative product, free or not, which has file optimisation and sync capability for Windows, please shout out.

The new Plex for Windows client is a total rewrite from the old app version. The ability to transcode before a sync hasn’t been added, but it is planned. I just don’t have details on when. The app is using a new sync feature that allows syncing the files without transcoding which has been a popular request for quite some time. This new client is the first to allow this. The overall sync feature needs to be updated to support both, so it will take some time. But like I said, it is planned to be done.

Plex apparently don’t appreciate how insulting it is to their existing users to remove a feature when it suits them and think its any consolation to hear ‘we’re going to put it back in when convenient for us but we haven’t decided when, until then you can live with whatever functionality it suits us to provide’.
The business model is apparently working and gaining Plex new customers and subscriptions but as a long term customer its a horrible way to be treated.

If you had previously downloaded the Old Microsoft Store version of the Plex App it should still be available.
Launch the Microsoft Store app,
Click on the three dots …
Click on downloads & Updates
On the left hand side click on All Owned
there in the list should be the Original Windows Store app.
On the right hand side of the app there should be the install button.

install and gain the full great app that actually works. (albeit a little bit clunks and temperamental in the syncing) but it works a dream for me with nearly 150GB of video files
