Is the Plex team going to be bringing the option to download at a specific quality using the Plex for Windows application? I don’t want to be downloading my full bluray quality movies to my laptop for when I travel.
Nope. First off it would be stupid to have to create an optimized version each time I want to sync something to my laptop. But even if that was the case, it doesn’t work. Even if you have an optimized version, when you click Download you can’t choose which version to download and it just auto downloads the original file.
What you’re describing has not been my experience. I haven’t used it in a while but I have successfully synched optimized versions to both my iPhone and a Fire Tablet in the past. If you do it from the device you want to synchronize to it will create the optimized version then automatically put it on your device.
We are talking about the Windows application. Yes, my experience is the same of yours on mobile devices. But the Windows app only lets you “Download” not sync and it’s always the original file.
Sure, but you can also optimize from PMP any content in your library. If you have it set up so it stores that file in a sub folder all you need to do is browse to that folder and grab the optimized file. It will be identical to what would synch to a mobile device and you can put it on anything you want.
Sorry. I interpreted the priority in your OP as ultimately trying to find a solution to get an “optimized” version on your laptop for traveling. Since PMP is still available, why not just use that…then don’t update it once they remove desktop view? You don’t need to use it for playing.
I think this is possible in the web app as well although I’ve never tried it.
