Sync is Dead (almost). Long Live Downloads! (Part 2 - iOS)

Somehow Netflix and other streaming apps on iOS manage to sync downloads without having focus.

You should see the same if the file is being Downloaded as-is, i.e. no transcode. However, if the file is being transcoded, the files are sent in chunks and each is a separate download command. AFAIK, the background task will only keep a single Download command open.

Downloads has generally been working great for me on iOS but recently I tried downloading 3 series (some of which I’ve downloaded episodes of in the past, not all) and it’s failing for all 3. I’m attaching logs from both the client and server, will try restarting both and giving it another go. I’m on iOS 15.2…is that known to not work?

FYI - after a restart of both client and server I still couldn’t get the series to download (next 3 unplayed episodes) but it does seem to be working better by selecting only a single episode from each series. Perhaps that helps you pinpoint the issue?

Hmm. I see it downloading stuff, then all of a sudden it loses the connection to your server. Not sure what’s going on. Need to dig a bit.

I’m also getting a weird issue where if I enable to the picture-in-picture feature, it selects a different language then the one I selected inside the app. Anyone else experiencing this?

Has this fix been released?

I can’t reproduce this. I get the same language. What app version are you on?

Not yet. We’re having some technical difficulties getting the fix in.

Honestly, since completely disabling sync, download hasn’t worked properly on my android device. Plexamp still works but trying to download either music, or movies with plex only ends with an error message. The log only shows this:

DownloadQueueManager] Download failed: c055d16f96cac85e0a555d79616b087af04fdaec 03-10 22:23:21.801 e: An exception occurred: java.io.IOException: Unsuccessful response: 0 03-10 22:23:21.801 e: Stacktrace: java.io.IOException: Unsuccessful response: 0

Someone told me, it might be an issue with DNS settings, but I don’t have anything configured in that area. Can somebody please help me?

I thought that Plexamp was completely different. This thread is about the Plex Player

Hi all.

From Ubuntu 20.04 server.

To my Plex Player on Windows and Mac. SUPER FAST!! Over 300mbps.

On my IPad or IPhone. 8 mbps.

I don’t know what is the difference between computer or tablet or phone. That s…!!! We lost the possibility of preparing our videos in advance and the reliability. So many months and nothing change.

Thx Rockwell Automation. Thx from all truck driver.

My point is, it seems to be a problem with the player software and not the server. Because if it were a server problem plexamp wouldn’t download correctly either, right?

So does anybody have a solution or at least a similar problem?

Investi got the same problem …

Was there any answer on that? I am still trying to sync items from the webUI or at least monitor the progress from there…

downloads used to work, but now I get error downloading item, and more recently I get a error 409 on my iPhone 13 trying to to download a few movies for the weekend trip I am going on.

Still not working on IOS (15.5) for me.

It’s really worrying that almost 12 months on from this post announcing the delivery of the Download feature on IOS, it still isn’t robust for many users.

PLEX for iOS v8.5 just released, and looks like Downloads (for me) is finally fixed.
Even successfully recovered from a download error.

And only took a year!

I just tried the newest version. Switched my settings to ā€œmaximum compatibilityā€ and received a download error right away. Guess I’m switching back to Original Quality. At least this works for me.

Worked for me with a test movie of 7G on a Pi4 (took awhile on the pi)
