Sync stuck on "Waiting to download"

@sixones nope, but I was on public WiFi at the time. Will try again tonight when I’m on the same network as the server.

Thanks for looking.

Interesting, wonder if something was blocking the request or causing the server communication to act in the wrong way. If you could try it from the same network it would be a big help!

@sixones my apologies for jumping to the conclusion, that the problem is related. Just wondering - Does the “corrupt database” problem on android not affect all android devices? If not can the problem be narrowed down to a specific setup already?

Thanks for your help!

@sixones: Attached new logs, this time when on same network.

A bit of background: I once sync’d my entire music library in one hit, it worked. But any additions to the server would not auto-sync to device, and I couldn’t then sync individual items.

I reset everything, wiped the sd card, deleted the device in plex web, reinstalled client app. Then sync’d individual music artists, which worked.

A while later I decided to sync some TV shows, conversion was done, but they are now all stuck waiting for download.

I’d rather not reset everything again.

I think maybe the sd card is not fast enough for some of the SQL transactions, and maybe it’s getting locked somehow. But will leave you to analyse the logs.

Thanks again for looking.

Thanks for trying that @kdineen and sending over the logs, whilst it’s stuck waiting for downloads, could you restart your Plex Media Server? Would be curious to know if this allows your downloads to continue.

@sixones: yep, tried that before. No change.

I am experiencing movie sync okay, but unseen tvshow sync randomly stops after a couple of episodes are synced, stuck at downloading, never completing in local network or on WAN, this to iOS and Windows 10 app.

Hey there,

got the same problem - any new solutions?

For what it’s worth, I’ve had the issue twice more since my last post on this thread. One time each on different Android devices than the original and the same resolution worked for both.

  1. Reinstalling the Plex App on the device (without reconfiguring it…wait for it…)
  2. Removing the device from the server devices list.
  3. Bounce server (Plex or the whole machine)
  4. Re-configure Plex on the Device
I know this isn’t an acceptable “workaround” (in fact it sucks when you’re trying to sync large amounts of content just before a trip), but it certainly gets things back on track. After “re-registering” the device on the server like this I’ve never had the issue reoccur on the same device. And anecdotally, I’m convinced that it’s the server upgrades that are causing the issue. Either I’m upgrading while downloads are pending, or while transcoding is in progress, which is corrupting the device entry in the server database…somehow :s

Hey javerwey, ty for that fast answer =) → Just tried the reinstallation 5 minutes before (without reregistering the device) and it is syncing again. I will take an eye on the upgrades next time. Maybe thats the original problem. Did you also install Plex on a linux server? (I just installed it on Debian 8)

Edit: read your system-specs… seams no OS related problem

Anytime one of my devices gets stuck, I’ve always been able to get the transfers started by simply pressing the sync button. It’s in different places on different apps. (I have plex app on iPhone, a Windows 10 tablet, and a Windows 10 laptop.) That forces a two-way sync between the devices and checks for items that are waiting to be downloaded. This has always worked for me.

I’m also having a similar issue. Big MP3 playlist that I want to sync. All MP3’s are there. But it is not saying 100%.
Log attached:

I removed the library and retry to download it. Again stuck at 98%… See attached logs

Hi all, I’m getting a similar problem when syncing movies. Some will sync without issue others get stuck ‘waiting to be converted’ according to the webapp or ‘There is an error with this item’ on the android app. After trawling the forums and even googling I’m finding this, or similar issues, are a big problem. Is there any news on a potential fix? BTW this is not a problem , for me at least, on my iPad mini. A lifetime PlexPass might not be a lot in the grand scheme but it’s quite a lay out for something that doesn’t really work.
I’m using android 6.3.4.1485 (on my phone)
PMS Version 1.8.1.4139 (on windows 10 PC)
Just some info at this point would be extremely welcome and it would seem not just by me, thanks.

I had a similar issue, it would even crash my server sometimes… I figured out it often crashed trying to sync one particular movie, so I Plex danced that file and now it worked fine…

nvm started working again after being stuck for 10 min

This solved my issues: Updating Information, Media Player Error! - Resetting, and Waiting to be download. Thanks @javerwey !!

It seemed like it redownloaded all the media again, despite it still being on my phone. Wish there was a better solution for this.

@watzko : What I did was:

  1. I found out that my synced libs were not showing up anymore in the app menu after the update.
  2. opened the sync page and removed all the synced stuff (it was appearing there though luckily)
  3. resync everything, step by step. So not all playlists at once, but one by one. I even did smaller playlists first, and then larger. (smaller playlists have an overlap with the larger playlist. They contain (patrially) the same songs and they are downloaded only once.)

Hope this helps!

Having this issue as well. If only plex actually developed fixes, and not useless features no one asks for.

So I had the same issues. I would try to sync movies to a Kindle HDX 7 and the server would say “…waiting on conversion”. So I went ahead and optimized the movie first, then attempted to sync. This got it to work!. Not sure why it can’t queue up the conversion automatically though?!

Hopefully someone finds this useful for them!
