Synced music being transcoded to MKV?

I’m using the Plex Player Flatpak. I have a library of FLAC music on my NAS (running PMS for Linux). I noticed that if I set “Music Quality” in settings to something other than original and then try to download songs from my library using the Linux player app that the songs end up getting transcoded into MKV files instead of into something more natural like OGG.

Is this an expected behavior and/or a known issue? It doesn’t seem to affect my ability to play back the music in Plex. but the album art does seem to be missing (the other metadata is present) which is not the case if I play from the server directly.

Ideally for me, in addition to transcoding into a proper music container, Plex would also just blindly copy the metadata from the source into the transcoded copy.
