I’m running a Plex Server Version 1.16.2.1321 on a Windows 10 machine.
I have various mobile devices (iPad, Android phones, iPhone) that sync content to watch it on the go.
I recently upgraded my phone and used Android phone clone to transfer my apps and data to the new phone. It seems though, that this somehow didn’t work quite well with the Plex Server.
It seems both Android phones are now treated as the same device, although I see both devices. When I change the name on one phone, it also changes the name of the other device on the server (under authorized devices).
When I try to sync some items now to my phone, it sometimes works, but sometimes it doesn’t.
I thought it would help if I removed the old phone that I don’t use anymore from the authorized devices, but that now rendered my new phone as well kinda useless. I can’t delete already synced content on this phone anymore. It says:
“Error
There was an error removing this item from sync. Please check your internet connection and try again later.”
I do have an internet connection…
Is there some setting that I can manually fiddle around with it to get it to work again?
And NO, I cannot and will not delete the app and reinstall it. This is NOT an option. The latest Plex App is not working properly and has too many flaws that make the use of the app practically worthless. I tried it.
Android phone clone to transfer my apps and data to the new phone
For sync to work, each device has a unique identifier. If you copied the data from another phone, that same id is carried over. You can’t have 2 devices with the same id, that just confuses everything.
I can’t delete already synced content on this phone anymore.
My guess is that the actual synced file doesn’t exist due to the copy you did.
That is probably the only way to sort out this issue. Copying over app data still isn’t 100% on Android devices.
Well, thing is I can still watch synced content on that phone and watch it perfectly offline.
How can I delete the old phone out of the server and keep the new one? I understand I can only use one ID, but that means, I just have to delete/disable the one from the old phone, no? How to do that?
Alternatively, where can I download an (older) version (ideally 7.13.0.9583 as this one sort of works, although it also has many flaws) to reinstall on my phone then?
As I said, the latest version I have tried is so buggy at some must have functions, it is literally useless for me.
Uninstall the app on the old one. As long as the app is there, it will have the same ID. However, that might not fix all your problems. I still think copying over data from another device just won’t work right. As long as you keep using this copied version, I think you’'ll keep running into issues.
I extracted the apk file from the new phone, deleted the app and reinstalled the old version again.
I also deleted the app on the old phone and downloaded the latest version from the app store. Now the server “sees” two different phones.
Syncing somewhat works on the new phone again, although now I have a different problem.
Although I’ve been using Plex now for years, I kinda start feeling I should really have a close look at Kodie. There are just too many issues popping up again and again here.
