Synology 2018 Nas trans coding but film is in 5.1 H264

Hello

trying to watch star trek first contact on my Samsung HK5600 Tv. I have the audio set to 5.1 as this Tv is only a 22 inch version and therefore not the most powerful to cope with a blu ray rip.

normally the only problems I had was with VC1 films or any film with HD audio selected.
Yest now I am in tans code hell. Can got the front room where my LG 55 tv plays the film easy as…

Any advice please

thanks

Jim

Ps tried subtitles etc.

What is transcoding? Audio or Video or Both?

Transcoding happens in 1 of 2 ways.

  • The Media being played is not compatible with what the client can play
  • The resolution has been changed in the quality settings

If you’ve already gone into the client app and set the quality to maximum/original. Then my suspicion is, either the Audio, or the Video, or the Container, are not compatible with that Samsung Television. In which case you have 2 choices, transcode it into something that is compatible with that television, or buy a Roku Stick or a Fire TV Stick, or any other Streaming Media Player within your budget so you can have more modern playback feature set.

Edit: One other thing to possibly consider, the TV itself may only be capable of 720p, which means it may ALWAYS transcode 1080p content no matter what you do container or codec wise…
