Synology DS213j + nvidia Shield for streaming remux?

Hello dear people,

so far i have always used my DS213j in combination with an Intel NUC and Kodi, but now the second one is just spinning and i have crashes and crashes. So I want to switch to the Nvidia Shield TV the round version (because it supports everything I need) and then just use Plex instead of Kodi.

I tried the whole thing with my PS4 and NAS, but I couldn’t stream my Remux movies without stuttering. The question now is whether it’s the PS4, Plex or the NAS. With the NUC and Kodi it ran without problems as I said (it is a 2013 version with i3, so it is not highend either).

If a shield TV and DS213j is enough for FullHD remux, is it also enough for 4k remux movies? I recently got a new Sony TV and I would like to enjoy 4k soon :).
Should I rather take the Shield TV Pro or is the 2GB RAM of the non-pro?

Thanks a lot for your help

Hey there, thanks for helping. Did as you said, movie kept buffering every couple of seconds.

Also lots of the movies don’t have an appropriate picture in the library.

PlexXML.txt (18.3 KB) (File removed)

Thanks for the hints!

So I am owning a AVR which supports all the media formats, so a passthrough of the nvidia shield should be enough for me. That way the NAS doensnt have to transcode, the shield passes everything through to the AVR and the movie should stream without buffering, right?

Sounds good. Regarding the bandwidth it should be totally fine because everything is hard wired and with the intel NUC and Kodi the setup worked out.

To get other clients to be able to stream, a solution could be to get the Shield Pro, setup the pro as Plex Server and let it handle the transcoding because it should be strong enough for the files?
