I am running the latest version of Plex on my updated Synology 1019+.
I noticed that under settings & remote access Plex kept telling me I was not accessible outside of my network.
I realized that I had put into the Synology DSM firewall a series of rules excluding IP access to synology from all countries except the continental US. When I deleted the rule for Ireland, magically my Plex told me that I am now “Fully Accessible Outside my Network”.
Question: What countries should be excluded from the firewall (other than Ireland) to ensure Plex can be accessed externally? I assume Plex has servers globally that assist in this.
I am not enthused about allowing all countries because that opens the NAS to massive attacks… So I wont do that. I had them opened before and was attacked like all getout.
What I am looking for is a short list of Plex server countries that I can open the firewall to that allows good fallback. (that doesnt include russia, china, etc)
Server is working well with just Ireland opened up – but I am sure there are a couple of more for redundancy that should be opened.
