Synology Hardware not on NAS Compatibility Spreadsheet

In looking at the Plex NAS Compatibility List, I have noticed it hasn’t changed in a few years… but the NAS hardware manufacturers clearly have. Does anyone know of either a newer spreadsheet or their own research that shows models with hardware accelerated transcoding beyond these for Synology? I currently have a DS1819+ and a backup DS1815+ that work great for file serving and other network purposes… but as Plex servers, they are really slow and tax quickly with more than one stream. I have been using them for about 6 years now and am ready to upgrade… What I would like to do is have a 2-4 drive hardware accelerated NAS that is simply serving Plex media and pull the media from the DS1819+ if I can.

@David-Plex-DiskStation

I am the custodian of the NAS compatibility guide.

What did i miss and which would you like to inquire about ?

Which list are you looking at ?

As for upgrading hardware, a number of us are getting the little 4x4 bricks and pulling media over the LAN. ( I have an AlderLake unit and it’s perfect for Plex )

Synology moved to mostly AMD processors, which do not transcode. Look to Qnap for more consumer models that still use Intel

I want to buy a Synology RS422+, but I want to make sure that it works with Plex server before buying it. Can someone help me, please? TIA!

You’re good. The AMD CPU uses the X86_64 instruction set.

You won’t have QSV hardware transcoding but PMS will run.

Thank you very much for the prompt answer @ChuckPa! Happy Holidays!
