PSG subtitles break every movie I try to watch, doesn’t matter what quality I choose.
Sometimes it times out on start, but mostly it just stutters like crazy. When using SRT subtitles instead it works like a charm.
Is there anything I can do to fix the PSG problem? I have hundreds of movies and TV shows with embedded PSG subs, to download SRT for all of them is not an option.
The problem is the Plex client.
Most plex clients cannot render image-based subtitles (PGS, VobSub) themselves. Therefore they ask the Plex server to ‘burn’ them into the video picture. Which is an operation called ‘transcoding’.
Apparently your server has such a weak cpu, that it cannot perform video transcoding in real time.
So, if you want to use image-based subtitles, you must use a Plex client which can handle them.
Both OpenPHT/Rasplex and PMP can display them without the help of the server.
The Android client can usually only handle them when the playback mode is ‘Direct Play’.
Clients which cannot handle image based subtitles (as far as I know):
Plex Web
Plex for Windows Store app
iOS app
ChromeCast
FireTV
both lists may be incomplete
Thanks for your feedback.
I’m using Apple TV and everything works with Direct Play except image-based subs. Should probably get some HTPC and run PMP on it.
