Synology server unavailable and lagging Plex playback and indexing

Im running Plex media server on a Synology DS1813+ and until recently it worked fine. It has now started lagging in connecting to various devices (laptop, iPad, smart TV) on the local network. NAS and smart are hardwired. Also the server settings have now become unavailable when trying to access them through a laptop. I have attached the log file. Thanks in advance for any help!

I’m seeing a couple things in your logs.

A. Did you recently add a bunch of media? If so, the database is need of cleanup/optimization. The Atom CPU in the DS1813+ needs all the help it can get.

B. Subtitles are being selected but I do not see which type. If they are PGS, VOBSUB, or any other image type, the DS1813+ will lag terribly because it does not have the CPU power to burn them into the image. If they are text based (SRT,ASS, or SSA) and Plex/Web or the other players’ options for subtitles are set to “Burn Always”, this will have the same effect.

C. Lastly, it looks like it’s finding a lot of languages in the files you’re trying to play at the time shown in the logs and spending a great deal of time sifting through unnecessarily. If this is true, you might want to consider pruning out those tracks you don’t need or want.

Thanks for the answers.

a: yes I did add a bunch of media recently, how do I do a cleanup/optimization?
b. the subtitles are usually set. Some files have them embedded, but I never use those.
c. I can’t see where I have a bunch of languages selected
thx

A. Hover over Libraries which exposes the ellipsis. Click it. Click Optimize Database
B. If the subtitles are in there and you’re not using them, consider taking them out.
C. I did not mean you had selected multiple languages. I see in your logs where PMS compares all the different languages it finds looking for the one you wish to play. Best practice is to keep, as example, Russian, Polish, and Swedish, out of the file if you’ll never have a need for it. Why waste the space and why slow the evaluation process?

Ok great will give it a try. The problem with the languages is I think they are embedded in certain mp4 files, so I can’t really get rid of them. I dont really have any subtitles I dont use. There should just be swedish, english and french.

thx

There are tools which will take those out for MP4 files.
MKV files have mkvmerge (part of mkvtoolnix set) which performs the same task without re-encoding like HandBrake does

excellent! Thanks so much for your help!
