Hi.
I got a Synology DS718+
It is running Plex Version 1.10.0.4523 from the package center.
When watching movies h.264 1080p on my Samsung TV QE55Q7, it keeps lagging. I use the built in tv plex app.
What settings should I use, to avoid the buffering/lagging, as it is very annoying that the movie stops every minute for few seconds?
Thank you in advance for any help.
Christian.
The tv is connected to the NAS by LAN cable
Christian,
Without seeing your log files and the media information, it’s not possible to suggest any settings.
To further make it problematic, When your media is not a perfect match for the TV, pMS will have to transcode (convert) it. You, being a free user, do not have access to Hardware Transcoding . As such, the CPU alone is not powerful enough to convert most 1080p video.
Hi ChuckPA
Thank you for your reply.
About the Logs, should I upload them somewhere? Is it all or just some of them that are needed? If I’m correct, the logs are downloaded from “settings->server->help->Get logs”?
Christian.
Christian,
The easiest for both you and me is to go to Settings - Server - Help - Download Logs about 30 seconds after you see/recreate the problem. 30 seconds gives PMS time to shut down anything it was doing and all information to get to them.
It will give you a ZIP file.
If you attach that here (or drag+drop) and wait for it to insert a URL into your Reply, it will attach it.
I’m already prepared to open them directly from your post
Hi ChuckPA.
It has not happened for long time, but now it started again. That is why I did not reply before today. I have attached the logfile as you specified, I hope you can see what is the main problem?
Thank you in advance for taking time to make a reply.
Best regards Christian.
Christian,
I see the transcoding.
In all the cases I see, the transcoder is pausing because it has more then enough capability

Can you recreate the pausing and capture the logs for me about 30 seconds after this occurs?
I will be able to give you definitive answers
Also please include the XML of the file you're playing.
Hi again.
I have attached the logs. I started the movie, when it stopped, I waited until it started again, then paused the movie, waited about 30-40 seconds and then downloaded the log ( Settings - Server - Help - Download Logs )
Also please include the XML of the file you’re playing.
I’m not sure how to do that? There is no xml file in the folder that has the .mkv file and I tried googling for a solution, but I did not get a useful answer. If you can let me know how to get it, I will post it. If it is for any help, I attached a picture of the info windows gives me?
Are you subtitles? PMS is showing me that you are?

If you are using subtitles, I need know what type. If PGS or VOBSUB (image subtitles), these are too difficult for your machine to handle. This would explain why it stutters so badly.
If possible, I request the XML (hover over item -> Get Info -> View XML) . What you provided is “Media Info” from windows. This unfortunately does not help me. The Plex XML will show me the the type subtitles being used and much more information than MediaInfo does.
The plex server has been updated on my Synology since the first post.
It is now running version Version 1.12.3.4973 64 bit intel version from https://www.plex.tv/downloads/
I just updated the plex server to latest version (see post above)
It is still lagging and cpu usage is 99%
I have attached the logs. I started the movie, when it stopped, I waited until it started again, then paused the movie, waited about 30-40 seconds and then downloaded the log ( Settings - Server - Help - Download Logs )
xml and logs are attached
Subs are srt
Hi Chuck,
I don’t know if i should start a new thread or not, but I’m experiencing the same problem. I run plex on docker on a Synology. Plex Media Server Logs_2019-07-27_12-38-52.zip (3.1 MB)
movie xml20257.xml.txt (13.4 KB)
Please do create a new thread as it’s server-docker and not server-synology tagging.
