Synology Server with Pi Client best practise for offline content

Hi
Relative newbie.

I have plex server on my Synology Diskstation and all works perfectly.

I am hoping to achieve the following and not finding answers easily.

I would like to use a raspberry pi 4b to access Plex from a remote location. That location will only have sporadic internet so I would like to have offline access to much of the ibrary.

I have installed Plex for Pi which creates a new server.

I have also created a dual boot on the pi to run Kodi and have installed the addon.

Where I’m confused is which is the best way to set this up to achieve my goal.

Hope it makes sense.
Paul

If the media is not local and your not connected to it then your still not going to be able to play anything.

I’m not sure if you could sync some media to play offline when the internet is down…

This is the issue. I could save to the server created on the pi but then I’m potentially ending up with duplicates because I’d rather stick to one server if possible.

It would be interesting if you could build a client that you could sync to and have an off line ability to play then… could only play what you have synced but than you could change it up when you have internet.

come to think of it it would be useful for all of us during an internet outage. something to watch… limited but better than nothing…

A PI media player that could buffer the whole movie and load what ever codex it needs so no more transcoding would be required… I’d swap that for any of my fire sticks as long as it has a remote…

If you’re willing to run without your PlexPass (account) features, you can do it.
You’ll run completely open and without authentication.
If you need codecs at some point, they will fail to download (need an account to authenticate against for that)

Plex really is an online service. While it will tolerate some distruptions, the server and clients can’t be started without an internet connections.

The best you’ll get at this point with clients is something (perhaps old) which allows direct IP entry.
