Hi all, I have been attempting to upgrade my Plex.
However, my DS718+ keeps getting stuck on this screen.
Please see below.
Any ideas on what to do?
So I performed Q7 (uninstall and reinstall Plex)
And it says I am updated?
See below.
However, on the Plex Web, it still is pushing an update to me.
I did what you said and downloaded FireFox, but still have the same result.
So I went back and followed what you stated in your instructions, and I am still encountering this issue. I have supplied screenshots to show the process.
Q7
Open Package Center → Installed → Plex → Action → ‘Stop’.
Open Package Center → Installed → Plex → Action → ‘Uninstall’.
Per your notes, I did not delete the Plex folder because I wished to keep all my libraries and metadata.
Open Control Panel → Users → Delete the Plex user.
I deleted the Plex User.
Q14
Enabled SSH and ensured that folders in Q11 were no longer there.
Q3:
On FireFox I downloaded the SPK and made sure it was 64 bit.
I noticed it states I need version 6.0+ I screenshotted my Info Center to show I have the right version.
Then I went back to the Package Center
ensured Trust Level is “Synology and Trusted Publishers.”
Also, made sure to have the Plex Key in the Certificates.
Now, I upload the package, and it just hangs at “Processing. Please, wait…”
So, where am I misunderstanding or what additional details can I provide to help clear this up.
The only “Plex” I can get up and running is the one from the Package Center > Multimedia. Which is frustrating because it’s causing issues (reason why I am trying to update).
Yes, I did it is the 64-bit version.
I will give this a try. It’s strange because I just opened this DS718+ and this is the first DSM I installed.
Do you think it is possible that I need to delete the Plex Media Folder to ensure everything is cleared as mentioned FAQ?
For others this is the screenshot of how to reset.
Just to let you know, it was not a DSM Reset issue. It was a Plex Cache and Folder Permission Issue.
The Synology person had me grant Read/Write permission to main users on my DS718+ and delete the Plex Cache Folder.
They also recommended I run the SPK on the same wireless as my DS718+. Since I am a Mac user they told me to run the SPK on Safari because “Have you attempted to perform the installation in different web browsers? In some cases, some process in one particular web browser may hang and prevent the upload from completing properly. Try performing the installation in different web browsers to see if the same behavior occurs there as well. If the problem happens in one browser but not others, this would point to a browser-specific issue rather than a problem with the NAS itself.”
So all is good and I am upgraded, now to work on my metadata issue.
Could you take a look at another thread? I am having an issue refreshing metadata on my DS718+ thread can be seen: Plex SOS Troubleshoot: Posters, Move Data, Cast Members Not Downloading - Refresh Metadata
May I ask for a rewind here?
What is the specific problem?
Installing PMS or having PMS update its data?
If PMS not installing, as shown in the image above, it has nothing to do with the Plex share. It is a DSM problem. It will require DSM to be reset (Save configuration, Re-install DSM, re-install apps) which does not erase your data. Your data is safe.
I am the developer and maintainer of the installer .
The issue was PMS not updating.
It would hang and not run the SPK.
After a lot of trial-error I contacted Synology who advised me to clear the Cache Folder, ensure I was on the same WiFi connection, and to use Safari.
It worked, so I didn’t ask much questions after that.
DSM had nothing to do with it in this case.
Had you submitted a ticket to them with system logs attached?
The only thing which would stop the installer from completing is a hung PMS process.
Such a thing would show up in the system logs submitted.
The Plex share, specifcally the Cache directory, isn’t touched by the installer.
PMS itself looks for it after the installer exits.
It’s possible DSM is now waiting for a successful reply from the stop-start-status script before declaring the installation complete.
I will investigate that and see if it’s an issue. If so, I’ll fix it.
I will also update and look for hung PMS processes. If so, I will report them in a pop-up. This way there is feedback at minimum.
5 Hours I have wasted trying to update plex. It would just keep saying processing in DSM.
Deleted plex, reinstalled it then tried to update it, deleted it reboot and retry, delete it and do the complete tutorial stated above except the dsm reinstall.
Until I tried a different browser, I normally use firefox but now I used google chrome, and it worked. Once I uploaded the file I could see an upload percentage. The moment it hit 100% the next screen appeared to continue the installation.
Problem isn’t related to plex but to synology DSM not completly working with firefox apparently.
Hope this helps someone not having to wast their time trying to update to the latest version.
Would you please file a ticket in DSM’s Support Center app.
It will allow them to see the logs of the issues you had with FireFox so they can address it.
