Tagging my home movies

Server Version#: 4.136.1
Player Version#: Various players

Hi all!
First time poster so please be gentle.
I have been using Plex for a few years now and have been a Plex pass user for around a year now and absolutely love it! There is just one issue I can’t seem to find an answer for.
I have a lot of home videos that I would like to ‘catalogue’, if that would be the right word? For instance, videos with various family members, house parties, walks with the dogs etc.
Is there a way to tag the videos with certain family members and have them be searchable? For instance, if I want to tag my friend Angela in all the videos she appears in, then at a later date, to be able to search for all the videos she appears in, for them to be listed? I hope you know what I mean by this.
Hopefully someone has a bit more knowhow than I do, because I’m feeling completely clueless about this.
Thank you!

Plex can read embedded metadata incl. „cast“. information from mp4/m4v/mov files. On a Mac you can use Subler for this. IIRC, judgement on the best option for Windows was still out as the cast details are based on some extension of the mp4 container format.

Another non-automated method would be to use labels for those videos.

Thank you. Is there a way to get search to only find videos within ‘Home Videos’, rather than finding famous people in ALL my videos? An example would be my dog called Dakota. When I search for Dakota it also brings up the likes of Dakota Fanning etc

Not via the search feature, but you can do it via the filter.
