Hi I was getting the “connection to the server too slow” message on a big 4K movie. In other threads, people were baffled to discover that rebooting the PC resolved it. Same here!
As amazing is PLEX is, (and Windows on my media server for that matter), that’s not great. Because it’s been creeping up a while that mine and various friends and family’s players were having issues with smooth playback.
I should remember by now to reboot first when there are mysterious issues, but what is actually happening here, in your learned opinions? Is there a way to circumvent a need to reboot periodically?
If you can grab your server logs the next time you see this, that would be helpful to investigate what is going on. Let me know approximately what time you see that message.
Have you tries just exiting and restarting PMS? If the issue is PMS, that should solve it. If a full computer reboot is needed, I would think it’s something else.
If its windows 10, sorry… microsft has been pushng out updates that slow processors down for windows 10…I used windows 7 (still) and have had no issues…of coarse if you have a SSD/HHD does help as well.
Got a link for that? I am aware of a recent AMD speed problem in Windows 11 but not a blanket policy of making Windows 10 PCs slower. I would think that would be big news.
About what time did this happen? I see a PMS restart around 4 pm, the logs then go to about 10:30 pm. Where these logs from before the restart?
Edit - If this is before the restart, can I also get the log after the restart.
Hi sorry it took me so long to reply. The first restart that you see in the afternoon was me trying to solve the 1st 4K playback problem. The evening restart was me trying to improve free guy. it did a little bit but there was still kind of a stuttery playback, like a problem with scaling or dropped frames or something
I should add that this is a very recent and decent computer build. Specifically I got it because the specs should be able to play back whatever I want plus for my friends and family remotely, I consulted with build enthusiasts on r/buildapc
Sorry for the delay. Your logs are complaining about the audio. The Apple TV you are playing back on doesn’t support TrueHD Atmos so PMS is transcoding it to FLAC but running into issues. I don’t know if it’s the system or that specific TrueHD Atmos in that file.
Do you have another video with TrueHD Atmos audio you can try?
