This post is 3 years old? Have devs even commented on it?
+1 vote for it
Really really want this feature… please add. Been a long time since this post was created. Is there something I can do to help this become reality other than say “me too”?

Voting is achieved by clicking ‘Like’ on the first post in the thread. +1 posts don’t do it.
Is there any movement on this? People and a lot of them have been asking for a very long time. To many people this is more important than having stupid stuff like the NVidia Shield.
Yesterday, I bought a Shield to run Plex on it. So Shield is not stupid stuff. I hope Plex is getting a cut from Nvidia too.
I would like this feature as well very much. It would be really cool. Please implement it soon.

I don’t know why you would buy a Shield to run Plex on there are so many devices that are much cheaper. I am not an Nvidia hater, I actually use their products in a lot of my machines, but for playing plex just seems like not a wise thing to do.
Where does this sit as far as actually coming out?
+1 from me!
I have to admit I am trying to achieve this with VLC (as a stop gap). I am failing. I have VLC working but can’t get it working on Plex. I am not a coder and I have searched high and low for someone else that has done this. All that said, this would be an amazing feature. I have the local bandwidth + tablets + Roku TV’s + a gnarly server to do nothing but run plex. I gave my thumbs up. Hopefully the 800+ thumbs up’s will be heard.
+1, I also liked it
+1, liked
Definitely would use something like this. Just last weekend i was on PlexPy seeing what a friend was watching, and tried to manually sync so we were watching the same thing at the same time. Adds the personal social aspect of being able to make comments, as a movie or TV show is going. Like being in the same room. I could definitely see this being good for couples, and families.
Haven’t added my fiance to my friends yet, but intend on doing so when I can get to her devices and setup the apps (she’s a techphobe, whereas my friend who already is using it, he is not). I’m sure we’d all use a feature like this, like 6 people in different locations all watching the movie together (I have the bandwidth to support direct play simultaneously (15GB movies)). I doubt we’d even mind when people pause things. It would be like how it is in person, when someone has to go to the bathroom, and people are complaining for them to hurry up. Although annoying, that adds to the appeal / personal aspect of it I think.
I too would love to play music on multiple device in the home.
In hindsight, this would pave the way for being able to seamlessly transition between devices. A user joining in on another device would be akin to someone initially joining a stream when the video has already started. In that situation, playback for others wouldn’t be disrupted.
Came to mind as I thought about other’s going to the bathroom, kitchen, or something and pausing the movie. If they have another device, this feature inherently would enable them to go elsewhere without pausing. They would just join the stream on their other device.
This is something I would use solo. I often find myself in situations where, I have to pause a movie to do something. Then I will play it on my iPhone as I go to the next room or step outside quickly. Then I have to stop it on my phone, and then play it on my Android TV, or Apple TV when I return. If I didn’t hit pause or stop on my TV, when I return it would still be playing, allowing the transition from device to device to be seamless.
I agree with prasanj.
Would love to see this feature implemented
I would love to be able to play videos, music and music videos on my amp that is in the other room and have the image and maybe audio streamed to other TV’s. This would be great for parties too! This is a top 3 new feature for me.
I’m on board with this. Music would be a driving force for me. Though football games would be fun.
I transcode everything so the Chromecasts handle it better, so for me, Direct Play only would be useless.
This would be great for audio, would absolutely use this.
+1 from me.
Always wanted this to exist for music at parties. I think you can set it up in VLC manually but never tried.
Google Chromecast Audio supports this and Plex can connect up to Chromecasts. However, I’m unsure of the reliability of the paired feature via Plex.
From a Chromecast Audio perspective, it’s stellar. Short of Sonos, but still very good.
Airfoil also does the same as Chromecast…but my experiences with both are that there is a few seconds mismatch between devices being streamed to. I think this is because there are too many “links in the chain”.
I think the original feature request to have this natively in Plex, with the sever managing the stream to the “Plex players” would overcome this.
We live in hope
