Everything else to do with plex is running perfectly fine, I have no issues apart from the following:
In the lounge I have the Plex app running on a PS3, connected to the TV via HDMI and my speakers via Optical.
When watching something through the Plex app (which runs in 720p only for some reason?) the audio sounds like its barely 97kbps wav... When watching through DLNA on the PS3 the audio is fine...
I've tried to modify the client profile xml to force AC3 5.1 320kbps audio and nothing has changed.
I have a feeling that I'm missing something ridiculously stupid, but this is REALLY bugging me. It's like trying to watch TV but hearing audio through a phone line :L
I have very much the same problem tho I use just the TV speakers. The sound sounds crackling and/or buzzing, especially when there are sounds like water etc.
Also interesting is that the audio is on the low side, eg games I can play on 40/100 volume settings, but when watching plex I usually go up to 100/100. At that level it’s loud enough, but it feels weird that I have to be on max volume.
PS: 720p is also annoying. I understand the PS3 is weaker, but 1080p should be possible or?
Hi there. Please try to recreate using a sample file. If the file reproduces the issue then please post here. I appreciate that it requires your time and energy. Sample files which reproduce the issue are invaluable for debugging purposes.
Also, is the AC3 box checked in Settings > Receiver Capabilities. And is the Audio Boost box checked?
I've read the post on the link you provided, and I just want to clarify what you need by 'sample', I can record two samples of the audio directly from the speakers, one being the desired quality (when played through DLNA) and one being the audio I'm talking about (through the plex app). Or I can send a portion of media on Plex.
Hi jabademeh a sample (several minute segment of the file) which recreates the problem would be best. Sharing the desired and actual quality examples too would be keen. No rush - I definitely understand this take time. I'll be around.
The issue fixed itself about a week ago, just out of the blue... I'm not too sure why or how, its just fixed. I've tried to recreate the problem to give the sample files but no avail.
AFAIK the server hasn't updated (It's wanting me to do a local update on the server, wont update through web gui so I haven't bothered :P) and I don't recall the playstation app updating either. The servers due to be shifted in a few weeks so we'll see if a reboot will make the problem occur again then. Will post on the thread if it does.

PS Why is the app only ever running in 720p? A friend of mine says his is working fine on 1080 on his (not slim) PS3? Is it because we have a slim PS3?
