The complete dysfunction of this site

I had to try changing my assigned username at least seven times this morning because the site kept returning “unknown error” at every attempt.
I posted a question about a week ago but it’s gone. My stats show I’ve never been here or asked any questions… Ever. In fact stats show I just joined minutes ago.
I haven’t even used Plex yet and I’m already sorely disappointed!

Is Plex worth my trouble or not?
I already have Roku. Does Plex offer anything I can’t do with Roku?

If you have an extensive music and/or video library, you can setup plex to access your libraries and begin to do a number of things:

  • build music playlists that are accessible through PC, Alexa and mobile devices to name a few. If you music library is diverse and spans multiple decades, you can quickly produce playlists to satisfy any mood or occassion,

  • you have access to PlexAmp, which is a great companion mobile app that enhances the listening experience.

  • you can call up and play your video content on Roku, Firestick and other remote players in a similar way you would access other streaming services. I use Roku all the time for this purpose, both in my home as well as on the road.

  • if you add a tuner to your setup, you can use Plex as DVR to record OTA stations in your area, cable tv stations (if you have a cable tv account) if they are QAM (unencrypted). You can access encrypted channels with an SiliconDust HDHomerun Prime tuner and CableCard (where available). Plex provides the ability to delete or skip commercials.

I use all of the above features. What you will read is that experiences will vary and I can attest that Plex is not a toaster (plug in and toast your bread). It is a server technology that requires some planning and patience as any complex IT system would. But if you invest the time, I find it is worth the convenience and feature set.

As for this forum site, it seems you were an unfortunate victim of a random glitch. This site has been helpful as it is a collective repository of the user base experience and issues. It is not a direct support site. Although Plex engineers do review the posts, in many cases it is a user to user help site. Very informative, if you again take the time to use it as such.

Thanks everyone.
It appears Plex is more than I need as far as watching content. I would likely never use it to potential.
Thanks again for the info.
