Last night my wife hosted her book club. She asked me to put on some music for the enjoyment of her guests. So I went to my Sony 4K TV, opened PLEX, only to learn that PLEX “forced” an upgrade (really?) to the new system.
I soon realized that I no longer have the ability to play music (FLACs) through PLEX sending the sound tracks to my 4K TV, and from there to my integrated amplifier and speakers.
It was a good many years ago that I got “on board” with PLEX to stream my media. I do have many videos, and they still work, but my primary purpose was to stream music files and photos to my 4K TVs.
I still cannot fathom why you “betrayed” me and eliminated my music and photo functionality. Yes, I can get to music and photos on my iPad, but no longer on my two stereo systems. It is not streaming to my iPad that I need, it is streaming through my 4K TV.
I invested countless hours setting all this music up to stream through PLEX . . . and now I am unaware of there being any way to stream them through my 4K TV.
WTF, PLEX. Why did you do this?
And why did you “force” the PLEX app on my 4K TV to upgrade? Couldn’t you have kept the older app in operation?
WTF, PLEX?

Which Plex client are you using and which version?
This is PLEX on a Roku Ultra device.
I see a number 8.6.5.10604-ea6e6ca15-Plex
As I scroll from library to library across the top (this includes only the libraries with videos, but does not include any of the audio or photo libraries) the show no content, but say “Add Content to this Library”. This is when it is i]on “Recommended”. When on “Browse” the programs appear.
(I have never understood why the default setting is “Recommended”, for I NEVER use that.)
I do not use “Collections” or “Categories”
But I have around 40 different video, audio and photo libraries.
I am guessing you will tell me I should use “categories” for groups of content, not libraries.
Elsewhere it says Version 8.6, build 5.
Is your server up to date too? I don’t know if that makes a difference but I can see my music libraries on the new Roku app.
Roku Streaming Stick 4K, Plex app v8.6.5.10604.
PMS v1.42.1.10060
I can select / favorite music libraries, the same as movie/show libraries, and play music from them.
- Go to the top, where your choose libraries.
- Scroll to the far right. You should see three dots.
- Select the three dots to see a list of libraries.
- Favorite your music library / libraries or select the library to change to it without favoriting.

Thank you so much. This works.
Now I can scroll across and find my selected “favorites” music libraries.
I would like to reduce my libraries. I currently have 40 or more, because I use libraries as my system for segmenting my audios and videos.
Clearly, with this new process whereby I scroll horizontally cross the top to select which of the 40 libraries I want to access will be painful. The old system of having a vertical list on the left was easy.
So, now I need to revise MY system such that I have as few libraries as possible–perhaps as few as three or four: videos, TV shows, music, and photos.
How can I learn how to accomplish this?
Again, thank you.
If you want to combine libraries, add the folders from the libraries you want to combine into the library you want to keep. Once Plex has updated the consolidated library, you can delete the unwanted libraries.
For example, say you have a three movie libraries, Movies1, Movies2, and Movies3.
/media
/movies1 <-- folder added to "Movies1" library
/movies2 <-- folder added to "Movies2" library
/movies3 <-- folder added to "Movies3" library
To reduce to just one library, “Movies1”, add /movies2
and /movies3
folders to the Movies1 library (You can add multiple folders to a single library).
Then re-scan the Movies1 library so it pick up the additional movies.
When Plex has finished scanning, updating metadata, etc., Movies1, you can delete the Movies2 and Movies3 libraries.
You can also edit the library and rename it from “Movies1” to “Movies” if desired.
