Never used chromecast so cannot comment on the stability, but I know for me I had the most headaches when using a Roku Ultra in the past. Always transcoding when it didn’t need to, and many other headaches. On paper should’ve been a pretty good device, but was not great at all.
Apple TV 4K + Infuse is the best combo for movies and TV outside of the Ugoos AM6B+ or Nvidia Shield Pro. Those devices will 100% direct play every codec, which is what you want to avoid any issues with Plex.
Best to pay a little more money upfront to get the right equipment, than to have constant headaches that can be avoided if you ask me. ATV4K, Shield Pro, Ugoos AM6B+ is the only devices I would recommend as those are the only ones that have proper codec support.
Problem is that it DOESN’T WORK. At all period. Stream locally yes remote nope and I hadlve lifetime server pass. bought the app for each phone(5). It’s not about money it’s about functionality.
I didn’t say you shouldn’t cast videos to your TV from your phone, I’m just saying from my experience that is not the ideal way to use Plex when even the most basic smart TVs have a “useable” Plex app nowadays or even Kodi.
If people want to drive themselves crazy using Plex in ways that aren’t the strength of the ecosystem they can have at it. But as a pretty experienced user I’m just saying better solutions are available to the vast majority of problems people are having.
It’s just stupid commentary. Do I know a billion ways for people to do things better - sure. Does that mean like some soviet commissar I should just say “do the things the approved ways” - nope.
This would be even more sensible if it wasnt such a simple AF function. Casting from your device to a TV is just a really basic function to say “welp nope, you should be just using a streaming box”.
This ignores so many other use cases like - going to someone’s house and easily being able to cast from phone vs. having to set up plex on their home device. Or being in a hotel or other venue that utilizes cast but not necessarily a place you would set up plex on the device itself.
So I just don’t even know where peoples minds are at to be like “nope casting shouldn’t be something you expect from a media app” lol
If you have a lifetime pass, then you’re not affected. So I don’t know what you’re complaining about.
If you say it streams fine locally but remote streaming is bad, this is a you problem. Local and remote streaming for me is the same. The problems I’m getting from streaming remotely are the same problems locally, and vice versa. The fact that you’re having a different experience tells me that you’re griping just to ■■■■■ about everything that you can’t fix yourself.
People are free to do whatever they like I agree with you. But don’t choose to do things the wrong way THEN go around everywhere screaming how horrible something is because YOU are choosing to use something the wrong way.
Infuse airplays and cast just fine if that functionality is so important. Downloads even work a lot better than Plex app even before the update. And Kodi for android cast as well and has airplay and better download support. So if that use case is super important to a user, solutions are available!
Dude I dont want to be mean - but you look like an absolute clown.
Go take up some hobbies because coming on plex forums to write deeply clownish stuff is not a good look.
If you feel the updated downloads works better with their single long playlist of every item - you just again are laughable. Dont waste peoples time writing this stuff.
Hey I’m just trying to help people out who may not know a solution exists to a perceived problem they think is unfixable. If that = clownish stuff to you then idk what to tell ya.
You are wasting your own time not understanding how to use software and complaining about things that have readily available solutions to them lol. Downloads do work better as the old app downloads would queue and never finish for me. Now downloads are full speed and at least work. And if you want to download full seasons Infuse and Kodi do that just fine.
You can actually see what I look like through an Internet forum? Didn’t know that was possible!
They said they couldn’t cast and your solution was “buy a streaming box” – thats not helping anyone - thats being a clown lol
Separately - my downloads worked perfectly fine on the old app. I also had functionality on that like downloading and syncing playlists and viewing my downloaded content in a logical way instead of one long playlist. Downloading full seasons exists on the new app - it just has no regard for watch status - just dumps a whole season into the queue instead of me choosing each episode individually.
Honestly when people defend this update I just have to wonder whether they really used the app or if they just meaningfully lack normal judgement skills.
No for casting Infuse works on iOS and Kodi works on Android or you can install the old app on Android with minimal effort. So the new app not being able to cast is not really a huge issue as it’s a “preview” and not a full app release.
Well maybe adjust how you’re using the app? Just a suggestion. I had to do that with Plexamp as before I was accustomed to downloading my entire music library instead of selecting the songs, albums and playlist I wanted to download. After a while I had no need to download my entire library and adjusted to the way Plexamp worked.
Using it as I type to watch family guy from my phone LOL it’s direct playing just fine and no issues doing what the app is supposed to do. Play movies and TV.
The update is not a ‘preview’ when the Dear Leaders force it onto your phone unwillingly. To your credit though, the $100 infuse app does seem to fix the Plex chromecast issue.
I am happy to spend money on some additional Plex competitors out of further retribution.
Yeah the lifetime for Infuse went up not long ago unfortunately. But $1.99 a month or $12 a year is worth it for Infuse 100%. And $100 for lifetime I still think it’s worth it. Rock solid app!
Change video codec? If you’re talking Infuse then it doesn’t need to change any video codec because it can directly play pretty much every video codec out there.
When I chromecasted it does not accurately change the video quality from the New Plex Experience. When I posted about it I was told that I was using the app incorrectly. This is an important feature as I often cast from hotels or on the road.
My problem is it does not work remote at all. Same file plays locally. I have to do an entire season of a show my wife watches and her phone has limited storage. The new app is trash. Web version works but uses more bandwidth. And is clunky for my wife
