Hi guys, When importing a movie into a library & it’s title is: “The Amazing Spiderman” (for instance) the program always changes the “Sort” title name & always drops the “The” off & sorts & names the Sort title “Amazing Spiderman” instead of “The Amazing Spiderman” ! I want it to KEEP my “THE’s” in the Sort title as well as the title??!!! How is this done? Thanks.
“The” and “A” are dropped intentionally, because otherwise you’d find 40% of your movies accumulated under the letters A and T.
This is a practice which is quite usual in all kinds of archives, libraries – either virtual or real-world.
If you really want to disable this, you can assign an empty string to the hidden “ArticleStrings” preference: Advanced, Hidden Server Settings | Plex Support
Thanks, I can get to RegEdit easy. But I have no idea how to edit it or which one to edit? Please help. Can’t even seem to see the “ArticleStrings” value there. ???
Please never ever post this screenshot again!
It contains your Plex token, which is almost as good as your password.
OK Why? Just looking for help. Thx
OK, didn’t realise that! Sh$t!!
You’ll have to create it.
I made it easy for you:
Extract this zip file,
full_sort_titles.zip (334 Bytes)
then double-click on the .reg file and confirm the question.
Afterwards, stop plex server and restart it.
Have followed instructions meticulously & it doesn’t work. Sort title still dropping the “The’s”. Thx for trying though.
This will only affect newly added items. All items which are already in your Plex libraries will remain unchanged.
ok I’ll give that a go. BTW Thank you I do appreciate the assistance!
Yeeeeee haaaaaaa! It worked! Thank you SOOOOO much! Very much appreciate it! My “The’s” are still there!
Now I only have 789 “Sort titles” to change! Lol!
You could simply remove the whole library and recreate it, if it bothers you that much.
True! I’ll do that! Cheers buddy.
Genius move!!! Done & Sorted! 3,898 movies in the “Movies N-Z” movie section of my drives, all sorted including the word “The” in their title sorted! I’m VERY impressed & I sincerely thank you for the assistance!

Otto. I’m REALLY Sorry to bother you, but I have the same problem again & wondered if you can assist Kindly again? I have now upgraded to a NAS Server (an Asustor AS5304T) to house my 4,000+ movies + LOTS of TV Shows on 4 x 6Tb Drives. Again Plex will not respond to the “Reg Edit” file that you VERY kindly provided me. I’ve copied it to the NAS Drive’s & “run” it (or tried) to run it from there but no go! Can you please suggest how I can get it to do the same as before on the NAS Drive? If you’d like I’ll even give you access to my NAS! Public 115.69.21.130 : 8008.
Thx
Asustor NAS units don’t use Windows as their operating system. Therefore there is no Windows registry.
AFAIK they use a variant of Linux.
Plex on Linux is storing its preferences in a file called Preferences.xml
see Advanced, Hidden Server Settings | Plex Support for details.
Sorry, I can’t tell you how to access the Plex data folder on Asustor devices.
