Theme music for TV & Movie Collections

It would be great to click on say my James Bond collection & hear the iconic theme we’ve all come to know. Or in TV click on my Scooby Doo collection & here one of the many iconic intros I love. I think this feature would add another depth to the immersive experience that is Plex.

Themes for Movies has now arrived so we may be a step closer, who knows? Would be a great addition, you have my vote.

It’s fantastic that they have finally added the single movie themes. But the real addition I want is movie collection theme support. I want the jurassic park music to play when i enter that collection! Please oh great Plex devs, make the themes in collections a thing

I want this too, A LOT, but 1st the process needs to be simplified. As I understand it movies need to be in folders for a theme song to be added. While I’m glad this is an option it’s just a little clunky imo. I’m no developer by any means, I’m just speaking from a user stand point.

This is how I have had my library for years. I’m pretty sure this is how they’ve recommended you organise your library for quite some time. It’s much tidier in my opinion. I get that it might be a real issue if you just have all your video files in one large folder though yes.

I have a “Movies” folder & a “TV Shows” folder. Maybe I’m confused. The way I understand the theme music procedure is to make an individual folder for each movie then place the theme music in the folder with the movie file. I guess I should just try it & stop commenting on it until I do, but it just seemed like a hassle for bells & whistles. Plex can sometimes be temperamental in my experience & I didn’t want to be switching things back & forth if it wasn’t a format I intended to follow.

That’s correct.

If you use arbitrary folder levels above the movie level (like a “Genre” folder), things might not work as expected.

If you have a mix of movies with their own, individual folders and movies just side by side in the main library folder together, things might not be working as expected.

I understand that we can add local theme songs for movies or TV shows, but it seems that currently, we can’t add theme songs for collections. I would like to add local music files as theme songs for my collections. Is there a way to achieve this?

Still not supported and as it appears there’s not super much demand for it.

There’s been a related suggestion asking for an option to store specific local media assets for collections alongside your media files (1 vote as of today).

I believe somebody once explained how they tried adding local media assets (incl. themes) to a collection using URL commands / APIs. Thought I couldn’t find that thread to check if they succeeded.
Edit: found it and apparently it didn’t work for them, so they created a separate suggestion to support managing themes and artwork from within the UI or via an API/URL.

I’d argue this is partly due to the restrictive 5 vote rule this forum has. I’m the author of this request and I’ve not even voted on it due to this restriction. Local asset support for collection is a shortcoming of collections.

I have my collections as a single flat folder with one theme.mp3 file. This simplifies providing theme music for all of the movies in the collection. Now if the collection would just play that theme song.

I would also love to see custom music/theme for collections. So many exciting possibilities. Thank you for all you do.
