I don’t know about others, but I’ve about had enough with DVR. When I need to reset it for my GF to watch the Live news in the morning, I notice the problems - this does not happen with other content. And it happens many more times than it should. If I were to take a guess I’d say Plex is not integrating with either Hauppage or HDHomeRun in a way that resets the devices properly afterward. And that seems to effect the programme guide as well which is frustrating. Anyone else having similar?
Yes- you’re not alone.
Been a Plex user for a while- when DVR came out had the grand idea that I could fix a few of the recording conflicts with my TiVo by offloading conflicting jobs to it. Against my better judgment given all the issues I was reading about on the forums I went ahead and bought an HD Homerun Prime- it was on sale, spent an hour at Cox getting the cablecard, etc. Once I got it working, found out I can only record about 12 channels due to DRM. (Urgh). But luckily the 12 that I can record are where most of my conflicts are. Okay- this will still work.
Tried recording “non-essential” programs to work out the bugs- wouldn’t you know that all recordings come out with varying levels of pixilation even with 90% signal, 100% quality according to the Homerun Prime, and no issues when recording same items on the TiVo.
This happens on both of my Plex servers- on my NAS and on the Windows box. No instructions around to troubleshoot this- seems like no one knows why or cares to figure it out.
The only good thing that has come from this effort is that I moved my server from the NAS to Windows, and it transcodes much faster…except for the current Windows stability issues that I had to resolve by figuring out how to run Plex Server Manager.
I would be THRILLED if I could figure out/fix the pixilation- but I don’t see it happening.
I came from Tablo, decently stable, but the interface is slow and clunky.
I am on week 4 with DVR, running on Windows/Roku with a USB WinTV stick. After making a change week 1 to disable HW acceleration, Plex has been up 100%, no PMS stoppages, all shows recording fine. So I am happy.
I know obviously that is not the case with a lot of people. Just wanted to throw in my experience.
Not perfect but been very good for me, connect and extend, windows 10 server, shield tv
I completely understand. I finally got to tell my wife that Live TV was available for Plex Media Player after all this time. Woo hoo!
[Clicks first live TV channel]
[Gets “No Parts” error that requires a Plex server reboot to fix]
Her: “So, I’m guessing this isn’t very stable yet, then?”
That ended Plex as the primary DVR on the first day of testing. I’ll keep an eye on the threads here for the continued progress.
