Suddenly can no longer stream live tv thru Plex via HD Homerun. I see the channels on HD app and can play them on PC, but not thru Plex. Times out. Why??
Tried rebooting my server and it now works again. Is this a common problem that I should be prepared for?
I’ve found that setting up an automatic reboot of my PMS PC at 4:30am seems to solve many issues. I also power cycle my router weekly. It’s good to go fresh every once in a while.
Suppose so…
When you’re counting on it to record programs that you love and have them available as you travel, it puts an emphasis on things like that.
New to HD Homerun so hopefully things will smooth out over time. Thanks…
The issue is not the HDHR. Seems that my live TV and DVR recordings lock up frequently. Killing the Plex service and restarting it fixes both.
To keep the wife happy I have installed the HDHR app on our fire TV’s so my wife can reliably watch live TV on the HDHR when Plex is locked up.
Nothing works now. Rebooting Plex, rebooting the HD Homerun, the server. I can generally see the channels live, but no recordings. It says it successfully recorded in the list of recording schedules, but the file is nowhere to be found. I have tried different pointers on where to save them. NOTHING seems to work. I am beyond frustrated! Even replaced the box in case it had issues. All seems to have occured (although I’m not absolutely positive) since I did the latest Plex update 1.9.6.4429
Tried to back down to an earlier version. Deleted current version 1.9.6.4429 and installed 1.8.4.4249. On restart, two shows I tried to record this morning showed up in Plex correctly. I felt like we were making progress. I tried to record two more shows. They did not show up after completion. They are both in folders in the drive location specified but are buried in the .grab folder and saved there as MPEG-2 files. They have not moved out into the host folder for viewing on Plex. What am I missing? Thoughts anyone??
Perhaps another data point is that when I look in the recording schedule, these programs show “RECORDING - 100% COMPLETE” and the red circle is there like it’s still recording (although it is a full 360 degrees of red). Is it hanging in transcoding or??? If I try to set another show to record I get a conflict message like the previous recordings are still in progress. Hmmmm…
I used to get those red circles a lot. I think 1.9xx fixed that for me.
I’ll try to go back to the latest version again. Still no idea though why the files are stored on the selected drive folder within a subfolder .grab that Plex doesn’t see. What takes place to automatically move them from the .grab folder out to the main folder so that I can watch them? Occasionally they work right and I see them. Most of the time, I don’t.
Plex does not show recordings that are in progress in your libraries. When the recording is complete Plex moves the recording from the .grab folder to the library which triggers a refresh of the library so the new episode is available for viewing. Technically since 1.7.0 version the .grab folder has a file created initially that from what I have seen stays empty, the recording is actually happening in a transcode folder that was added to support Live TV. Once the recording is complete the Plex Transcoder process takes the hundreds of small one second files in the transcode folder and assembles them into a single recording in the .grab folder. This file is then passed to Post processing if you have that option configured and then moved to the library. The 100% recording issue is discussed on numerous other threads. Engineering has determined what they feel is the cause of a majority of the issues seen and a patch is being tested, but as has been mentioned the other thread an exact release date has not been announced but is expected soon.
Using HDHR plex live tv will randomly have problems where it will not tune any channels until I restart my PMS. (Running Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS PMS version 1.9.6.4429)
Thanks folks. So, Johnm, it sounds like t he problem might be with a postprocessing issue. I will check to see if that is an enabled feature. I seem to have the exact issue you described. After the recording is finished, I find the files assembled in the .grab folder, but they never seem to leave there. If postprocessing is the cause, that should be fixable. I’ll try to look at settings and let you know. Thanks.
looked at settings. The only postprocessing command is in DVR settings for the HD Homerun box which says “Full path to a program which postprocesses the recording before adding to the library.” I’m not sure if this is where a script belongs, but the box is empty. Do I need to post process the .grab files or am I missing something?
You do not have to use post processing. If your files are not leaving the grab folder it sounds like you have the 100% issue discussed in the other thread. Fix is coming for the issue but don’t know if it will resolve all causes of the 100% issue.
very new to this forum and to the plex live TV interface. (yeah, I know… you can tell). So how do I get to the “other thread” to review the 100% discussion?? Thanks for bearing with me… appreciated!
I use HDHR Extend with Plex. Living in a shadow area, and I find especially on rainy days, one channel fades and signal is lost. Using the HR app I can view this channel when it comes back, but using Plex, I must reboot the server for it to reappear.
My signals are strong. I have no reception problems but for whatever reason the HDHR connect box isn’t leaving a watchable file on Plex. I see the .grab files but no conversion of those files to the folder that Plex wants to use (it’s in a subfolder within that Plex folder) I don’t think it’s an HDHR problem but rather a Plex issue. I just can’t understand why.
fly057…
Being new, I didn’t really know what PMS was until someone mentioned Plex Media Server…duh!!! So, I rebooted that and sure enough, just like when I changed to an earlier version requiring a reboot, the programs showed up. This is more than random, it’s happening every time. Is there something I can set to accomplish what is happening with a reboot? I think we’re closing in on this…
Here is the link to the main thread on the 100% Complete recording issue:
Might match you precisely, but it sounds like they’re closing in on a patch that will address the issue.
