TheTVDB isn't working for me (Kind of)

TheTVDB was working for me perfectly for a while but recently it doesn’t work properly. When I add a new show, it adds it but some metadata is missing. Like for example, it adds a couple of episodes meta data and some other episodes it would just ignore (episode name be like: Episode 1, Episode 3…etc with no description)

But the thing is if I turn on my VPN, it works perfectly fine for me. So I was thinking probably my ISP is blocking TheTVDB (even though I don’t understand the reason). But when I head over to www.thetvdb.com/ without my VPN, it works fine. Now I know that the website is different from the meta agent but it just doesn’t make sense for me that my ISP would block meta agent (for god knows why) and not the website. Something isn’t right.

So I just want to confirm that it’s completely my ISP’s fault and has nothing to do with plex. Or if somebody has a workaround, I’m all ears.

I attached my log if that helps.

Plex Server doesn’t go direct to The TVDB for the metadata instead it goes to tvdb2.plex.tv which is the Plex cache of The TVDB. Looking at your com.plexapp.agents.thetvdb logs your server is getting to tvdb2.plex.tv so not an ISP problem. It could be that tvdb2.plex.tv has not caught up with The TVDB yet so that would be why there is a difference in the metadata. from your log.

2018-03-23 19:10:21,655 (f28) : DEBUG (networking:161) - Fetching 'https://tvdb2.plex.tv/series/295068/episodes?page=2' from the HTTP cache
2018-03-23 19:10:21,680 (f28) : INFO (logkit:16) - Show ordering is: aired
2018-03-23 19:10:21,680 (f28) : INFO (logkit:16) - No media for season 2 episode 1 - skipping population of episode data

Lots more No media lines after that. So it looks like the plex copy of the TVDB is missing a whole lot of Dragon Ball Super.

But the thing is, once I turn on my VPN, it immediately fetches the metadata so I doubt it’s an issue with tvdb2.plex.tv not catching up with TheTVDB

ad-aware/web protection not loadind URLs with ‘banner’ in it like anidb pictures ?

Sorry I didn’t get what you are saying?

if it works through VPN and not direcly, only a firewall or ad-aware programe would explain this particular bahavior, essentially because most TheTVDB pictures contain the term “banner” in its URLs that are therefore mistaken for advertisements on some security software…

I tried turning off Kaspersky and windows defender but still no luck :frowning: It only works perfectly fine with a VPN. So I still think it’s an ISP issue even though it doesn’t make sense.
