Apple doesn’t officially support playback of Dolby Vision Profile 8.1 media on those devices. I’m curious about the logs too.

Do you have a Dolby Vision TV?

What does the Server Status/Dashboard “Now Playing” say during playback?

This is it. I didn’t notice it was DV. Other DV content I recall trying to play accidentally and the colours were all magenta tinted.

hopefully one day it will work.

The magenta problem was probably Profile 5 - it’s in a different colorspace. It SHOULD work on AppleTV but there are problems with Plex getting it to start as DV correctly. Plex has mentioned improvements to that “soon”.

I dunno what will happen with Profile 8.1. That’s not supported by Apple, but it’s fallback compatible with HDR10, so it “could” be playable.

For now I agree with you - avoid the stuff, until things settle down.
