This is getting pathetic

Plex is turning into a power/control hungry pile of mush. Intuitive is not a word to describe PLEX in any way. Sign in to EVERYTHING. WTF? WHY?? Why not give an option. Lan only, and you have the balls to force people to sign into everything? What is this Apple? Beyond the fact that you force content on everyone. Plex now officially sucks. For the folks who would deny these stupid things, I have been on and off of plex for a decade…It has only gotten worse and silly ways of making money.
How about build good software and sell it. Enough with the subscription bullshit. We pay you to deprecate the ■■■■ out of it and jump through hoops all day long?
Bullshit.

It’s 10AM here, but it must be Happy Hour where you are…lol

Well, you have to be signed in to set things up - as that’s the way Plex works. You can, however, after that, operate ‘Naked and Afraid’ by changing the network security settings for the server (and clients) from ‘Required’ to ‘Preferred’ or even (gasp) ‘Disabled’.

Yea, you’ll still be fighting Plex tooth and nail, but maybe a settings change would mean only 6 rounds a day with Randall “Tex” Plex instead of 12. I just signed in about 5 years ago, never signed out and stopped worrying about it, but I did employ ‘Preferred’ over ‘Required’ 'cause sometimes the internet goes out in the this part of the country - and that’s a big help.

Also go for ‘Fallback to insecure connection on local network only’ (server/clients - and the wording might be a bit different, but you’re a pro at this, right?), 'cause sometimes the internet goes out and that’s a big help.

Fair enough. However…“That’s how plex works” is not exactly honest, as it doesn’t have to. Data mining till the cows come home. Like people are just entirely to stupid to secure the products they have. So no option at all. Even then, there must be 5 yr old making this software. It is getting worse and worse. The PC player(or what ever they have decided to call it this week is a disaster.
Hell even the spell check on the forum is garbage. Watching movies on my Tesla is easier than this. PLex has gone out of there way to show how inept they can be. People would be insane to keep paying for that crap.
The rant is over…
Back to streaming devices, and no more Plex.
Thanks for the input.
That no solution solution is all over the internet will all the happy campers.

It’s just the world we live in, Buddy.

I have a phone, but it’s almost impossible to actually make or receive a phone call on it because Verizon is way more interested in inspecting my ___ (ALL my ___) for little bits of corn than they are about the efficiency of voice messaging (previously known as a phone call).

Do I expect Plex to be any different?
Only if I’m a fool.

Maybe?
UPNP is all plex has left. They will get rid of that as well, because it works. Can’t have that.
I get the whole ecosystem thing but ■■■■■, make it work, and have it make sense. Furthermore, this notion that reducing functionality is great? No thanks. Fool or not…more like a company that will be irrelevant sooner than later. I am a fool with a great memory. Plex WAS awesome. Now it’s pure ■■■■■ with a membership.
In the end…I am at work (LOL) running server in a synology and using UPNP via the VLC player.
Just the glitching of the ever ending horseshit setting up VLC. Oh right…none at all!
At home for the kids whether it be ATV or Shield or even smart tv…I am will to sit through the horse ■■■■ of plex because the kids can see the pictures…but as my kids get older…cyah.
They will push people away to find a better more open software…like what Plex used to be.

Speaking of Kids:

If you were to say, create user accounts for your kids so you could share the Disney bits with them and not share the goat porn you could, easily, but it only works if everyone is signed in.

If you have Kids and Goat Porn - there’s a good reason to sign in.

LOL
I needed that. Having said that…As an IT administrator…perhaps I should work today.
Thanks
