This server is not powerful enough to convert video. on web despite disabled trancoding

Server Version#: 1.28.0.5998
Player Version#: 4.86.1

I have been running plex on my WD PR4100 for years now no problem whatsoever, but from several weeks ago I keep getting “This server is not powerful enough to convert video.” when trying to play almost anything using web player (I am using Google Chrome Version 103.0.5060.134 (Official Build) (64-bit)). Problem has been the same on multiple PCs.
Same videos work perfectly if i play them with a PC plex app, or via my LG TV, or on android device, but not on web.
I prefer to direct play on all of my devices so Disable video stream transcoding is selected on the server and it has been working perfect before. Any idea what may be the problem, I can not install app on every box a use…

Plex needs to transcode the media and you have disabled transcoding.

Selecting Disable video stream transcoding does not force Plex Media Server to direct play media. It simply disables transcoding, thereby preventing Plex from streaming the media. When this happens, Plex returns the “This server is not powerful enough” error message. Granted, the message is very cryptic, but it is expected behavior.

Plex Web is the least capable client. Web browsers have very limited media support, and those limitations apply to Plex Web as well. H.264 video, AAC audio, & SRT subtitles should direct play. Pretty much everything else will transcode.

The Plex for Windows desktop app is built on top of mpv.io, a full featured media player. It direct plays almost all video/audio/subtitle formats. That is why it direct plays media Plex Web must transcode.

Thanks for clarification, I appreciate it.

Yet I am still confused by the fact that I was not getting this massage before but that is subjective feeling i do not have it loged in any way that video that have been working via web do not any more… Any way will use apps in future ther is no problem when using apps.

PS: is there a way to force direct play the time on server side?

Web browsers cannot play many types of media natively. You cannot force what it cannot do.
