"This server is not powerful enough to convert video" - Using a Drobo 5N and Xbox One

I am using Drobo 5N with my Xbox One. I am wondering why all of a sudden I can watch a movie(s) on my iPhone, iPad, or computer streaming directly from the Drobo 5N over WiFi but I can’t watch the same movie(s) using the Plex App on my Xbox One. I just updated the Firmware on the Drobo today and the Plex app on the Drobo as well to see if that would resolve the issue and unfortunately it didn’t. Any suggestions?

The error message you are receiving is basically saying something in the video is causing it to not direct play. Because of that the video is unable to play.

The main two things we would need is a your Plex Media Server.log when attempting to play a video that causes this message along with the media information for the file. This will help us determine what exactly it is that is causing the issue.

(The other issue is that you may have inadvertently disabled direct play in the Plex App settings which automatically forces all videos to remux or transcode. This is less likely, but does happen occasionally.)

Where do I get the log from? Settings in the Xbox One app?

The log itself will be on the server. This support article talks about how to find them on various devices/Operating systems:
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200250417-Plex-Media-Server-Log-Files

The settings from the app would be when you hit the hamburger button (3 lines) and then advanced. Direct Play is the top option and should be enabled.

Ok, found them. What is the best way to get the log file to you? Attach to this forum thread?

Sorry, stepped out to goto the gym.

The best way is to attach it to this thread so if the developers need to see it they can as well. If you’re not comfortable with that (Some people arn’t) you can send it to me in a Private Message.

I sent you a PM

Hi

I was wondering if this issue was resolved, and how?

I’m having the same issue… when I try to play a .mkv file from my Plex server on a WD My Cloud on the same local network as the Xbox One it comes up with the message “This server is not powerful enough…”.

However I have just connected to the same Plex server using a Fire Stick (Plex app) but over the Internet (from a bog standard hotel connection) and I’m amazed to find the files play fine?!? :-/

If any one can help I would appreciate!

I disabled transcoding (set media playback on my Apple TV to the highest possible resolution) and re-encoded some of my content and that seems to have resolved the issue. Sorry for not responding for so long.
