This server is unclaimed and not secure

Server Version#: 1.13.8.5395

A couple of days ago, I stopped being able to use Plex. I’ve tried uninstalling (including removing registry and folders) and reinstalling as per the message, but this hasn’t fixed things.

When I visit http://127.0.0.1:32400/web there is an orange bar at the top that says

  • An unclaimed media server has been found on your network. Claim it now

When I click on Claim it now, it goes into the settings page, and displays:

  • This server is unclaimed and not secure
  • Claiming this server will associate it with your Plex account.
  • This helps your devices find each other and helps keep your media safe.
  • Version 1.13.8.5395 Something went wrong. Please install manually.

When I click on the [Claim Server] button, I have a loading swirl for a couple seconds, then the button returns, nothing appears on to have changed.

When I click on the [Please reinstall manually] link, it takes me to the download page, which I have downloaded, and have used in the uninstall/reinstall sequence

When I try to watch any content, I get the error message:

  • Playback Error
  • Conversion failed. A required codec could not be found or failed to install.

When I click on my icon top right, and then select Sign Out, then close and reopen my browser, and go to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web it continues to show the contents of the server. If I click on the top right icon, it lists Sign In as one of the options (as opposed to Sign Out).

When I visit http://127.0.0.1:32400/web and ensure I am signed in, I then visit https://app.plex.tv/desktop but it says Looking for servers, and a main screen message:

  • To get started streaming your media everywhere, download and install Plex Media Server on the computer or device where you keep your media.
(clicking the link returns me to the top of the steps performed, which is installing the server)

I have the same problem, only after I added a home user and enabled PIN login.
When I login with pin and click claim server nothing happens.

Edit:
So after trying almost everything I came across a post about changing to DNS due to ISP blocking Plex.
As my IP is static to my router I just added custom DNS from google as well:
This is in windows ethernet adapter IPv4 setting
DNS1: 8.8.8.8
DNS2: 8.8.4.4

And suddenly my problems was solved.
Maybe it will solve your issue as well.

my issues begun with the admin user not being able to login
the rest of my home userss was able logi just fine, PIN code
i have been digging deep and a did not find any solution, so i decided to remove/reinstall (noticing that plex had a new sw availible (1.13.9) )
the installation went good,

however now i have the similar issues as you:
not being able to claim the server
plex server only contactable on http (https wont work)
and getting the “playback error: conversion failed, a required codec could not be found or failed to install.” when trying to playback a video

seem like some crap is still left in the installation folders even if i “remove” plex from the app list i QTS
howto make a "100 % clean " installation of plex ?

running QNAP QTS 4.3.5 on a TS453B

Same problem. Just bought a lifetime account (have been free up till now), wondering if that will help. No change.
